    Head unit ignition cable.

I am not really happy in cutting the ignition cable which i am yet to find on the car. Can i run the ignition cable from the car pc to the one which runs to the headunit. Both cables are yellow?

I don't like the term ignition cable makes me think of the big wire going to the starter, I much prefer Accessory(ACC). This emplies it is on ( 12v ) when the key is in the run position.

The ACC connection to your head unit could be tapped.
You could also run the psu off of the Headunit remote signal.

Don't fall into that trap. In automative applications never rely on the colour of the wire to tell you what it's carrying/what it does.

But yes, you can use the switched ACC (accesories) wire as the switched ignition line to your psu

Thanks for the quick reply, anther question answered. Now i can get the new mac mini 1.66ghz dual core w/512mb ram and 60gb hd, very cheap. What power supply can i use for this? I have seen the inside of the case and it doesnt appear to have a standard atx connector, infact it doesnt appear to have any internal power connector. Any ideas?

Not a good idea. The alternator's job isn't to power any devices, but to charge the battery. If you draw power directly from the alternator, it's less power going to charge the battery.

Tapping into the fuse block is a good idea.
Tapping into existing wires that provide ignition-controlled power is another great idea.

Having an extra wire running from your alternator will not look cool. It will look like you don't know what you're doing.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

    Mate,

Rather than all that fiddling around, you're better off just running it off the switched 'acc' or 'on' key positions. Running a wire from the alternator isn't a great idea not only becuase of what the Super mod said, but the alternator only charges when it needs to. When the alternator has charged the system to a pre-determined level, it stops charging.

If you run your carpc on this output from the alternator, it's going to be turning on and off all the time in time with the alternator starting and stopping charging.
I installed my carpc into my pet Kangaroo, mate.
