stick with M2 or buy an Opus?

I bought an M2 a month or so ago, and it worked fine for a few weeks, but now it took a crap. I am only getting about 2v on the 12v rail. After talking to tech support they belive that it is defective, and that I should send it back. My question is if I should try a new M2 and hope that it works, or should I just bite the bullet and get an Opus? How much better are Opus's?
    Thanks in advance!

Personally I would get an Opus, well I did after having M2 problems. 9-10 months later in daily use not one problem with it.
Hope your mother board is ok as the M2 has taken a few of them out when they go.

The M2 is already paid for so you might as well give it a try. There's alot of negative press on this board about the M2, but if you use it properly and don't overload it, it should just work fine. Pretty much every story about the M2 destroying motherboards, etc. that I've seen involved improper installation or overloading the unit.

I am loving my new OPUS 250W. It seems to have a better startup/shutdown controller, and I like how it handes acc control alot more. I have not had one crash since I got it working. Also, my liliput stopped having jittery lines since I have been running it off the 12v line of the opus. I'd say it is well worth the money to get one. Protect your investment in your car computer, and get the opus.

This is definately misleading. I have a degree in electrical engineering and know how to handle sensitive equipment and was using a barebones Epia system and somehow lost two M2-ATX boards. One burned out the 12V, and on the second the 5V died. The new one is chugging along as a 12V POL for my screen, but otherwise I have switched to a new setup. M2's are just lacking in quality.

I agree, sure there are a few problems with bad installs but I would say the majority is nothing to do with that. I don't know what it is but the M2 is just lacking in something, whether it be design, quality or both.

Well the M2 has some cheap components on them that aren't properly heatsinked or anything. You get what you pay for. I use the M2, and haven't had any problems with it, but I know that it is the Daewoo of the car PSU's. Just treat it right, and don't rely on the published limits. Opus is a better build, but if the M2 works, then why not.

Since you have already purchased the M2, if they won't give you refund then get a replacement. If they give you a refund get the opus to have security in your mind.

He wasn't talking about ESD preautions, he was talking about not overloading the M2's power rating. And, he was talking about the M2 taking out MB's, and not about "defective" M2's.

Now, even with your EE, you seem to either be killing the M2 somehow, since you had two with problems, or, you are unlucky to get 2 defective units. And, EVERY electrical device, as an EE should know, has a failure rate, or rate of defective units. No device produced is 100 percent working 100 percent of the time. That is just a fact. I have been using the M2 for almost two years with out a problem. It wasn't defective when I got it. And, there are lots of similar experiences on the forum, they are just quiet.

Thanks for all of your input. I think that I am going to get a refund on the M2 and buy an Opus.

I'm trying to decide between the 2 myself.

I'm leaning toward the opus as well after reading alot of post's about the M2. I hate to spend that much, especially after buying a 10 inch xenarc today.
But it seems to be cheaper and easier to buy it right the first time, instead of the possibility of buying another mobo, and power supply, and all the down time, pulling it out, and trouble of sending it back and forth, etc.. etc..
