    sproogy and hard disks

I tested out me sproggy with just a quantum harddisk as the load which requires

    peak 5v @ 700mA and 12v @ 1,700mA
    normal +5v @ 600ma and +12v @800ma

When i switch on the sproggy the hd just keeps clicking and wont spin up. Isnt the sproggy 2.7 meant to supply 2amps on the +12? What do i need to do to get the hd to work?

Then i guess you will have to put a amp meter in between the hdd and see how many amps its pulling !

    Post the results here !

Sproggy's PSU is giving 1.2A at 12V. I had exactly the same problem. My HD needed 2.5A for spin-up.I connected HD directly to the car's battery (using relay),this worked fine for me for a year, but now it's connected to 2 MAX1771 outputs which gives me about 3A,that's enough for HD.

does using that chip allow you to crank your engine or do you have to switch off your car computer first?

you can start the engine and it doesn't affect the HD.
