    ECK vs CCK

Got some samples from Maxim today. I asked for the MAX787CCK and MAX788CCK, but they sent me MAX787ECK and MAX788ECK instead.

The "description" from Maxim is as follows:
    MAX787ECK: 5V, 5A Step-Down, PWM, Switch-Mode DC-DC Regulator
    MAX788ECK: 3.3V, 5A Step-Down, PWM, Switch-Mode DC-DC Regulator
Is this a big deal? As in do i really need the CCK's, or will these do the same job?

Is it something to do with the package?? e.g. one is surface mount, the other is "through hole" I don't know though, just a thought.

Oh that's an easy one. The E and C refer to different temperature ratings for the chips, the packaging is the same.

    ECK : -40 C to 85 C
    CCK : 0 C to 70 C

But as I said, both are 5/TO220... So no mods to the PCB are needed.

So you actually got better ones.... You lucky bastard.....

    Same IC's but different tempratures.

    CCK operating temperature: 0 - +70c
    ECK operating temperature: -40c - +85c

Looks like the ECK is more tolerant of temperature extremes. Do you live in the shahara or north pole?

Doh! Beaten to it (JUST!) by dug1967.

Whahey! It looks like I'm lucky for a change!

As for the temperature, it's nice, cause temps here tend to drop to something like -30 Celsius (and now it's like +30).

Guess my LCD will experince some troubles in the winter, but I'll give it a try.
