    computer resets on cranck

I just have been testing my new (and first) carputer in my car. It works fine but resets when I crank to car.
I'm using al M2-ATX power supply and have used the cigarette lighter outlet. The M2 is configured 5sec/2hour as suggested in the manual.

I'm I doing something wrong? Is the cigarette lighter a good idea?

is ur PSU supposed to survive crank?

anyway, my old car-pc was using the Opus 150watt dc-dc PSU

it was great and would survive crank, then suddenly when i would start the car with the pc on, it would either freeze or reset.

i replaced my car battery with a bigger one (Optima Yellow Top D34) and the problem went away.

i was thinking, maybe when i started my car, the battery level would drop well below the threshold for the PSU to survive crank.

look into that! invest in a good battery if you replace yours.

edit: just realised you said you plugged your PSU into the ciggie lighter, is this the main source of power?

shouldn't you have a wire from your psu going straight to the battery? for constant +12v and another wire for the remote signal (to tell the PSU to turn on when you turn ur car on)

if you don't that could be another reason.

cig lighter is a bad idea. Your car will be charbroiled soon enough. This can be a dangerous setup.

Also, some cars disconnect the cig lighter when cranking. Sounds like your car does that.

Remedy: Run a wire direct from the battery, and your woes will dissappear. Sort of like magic... only cooler.

    OK...
Is it me, or does anyone else see this thread in the list and think the title is computer resets on crack?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

A computer smoking crack can result in undesireable side effects! Actually anytime a computer smokes, it is bad.

two items, do not use the cig lighter (and search will tell you wire to the battery) and If this still happens have your charging system checked (usually free at an auto parts store)
