    Power supply decision, whats best?

    Hey all,

    My current spec:
    EPIA SP13000
    1GB DDR Ram (1 stick)
    Travla c134 Case with 60w DC-DC PSU
    120GB 2.5" HDD
    Panasonic UJ-85J DVD-RW
    Lilliput 7" T/S (619GL-70NP/C/T)
    1x USB Bluetooth Adaptor
    1x USB Wireless LAN Adaptor
    PS/2 Keyboard and mouse (sometimes)

    Dont think ive missed anything

With the above spec, i would like your advice on which Regulator/PSU would suit best - it needs to be able to convert back to standard power easily as I need to be able to take it into peoples houses etc as it is a work machine
Therfore i was thinking about using the Carnetix CNX-P1260 60W along with an attached barrel plug that fits the case psu, to make it quick to plug it in and to take it out to use the original Brick adaptor indoors. Im open to suggestions though

BUT my really worry is that i dont know how much power this system will draw
will the 60W be enough for everything? also do i really need to put the T/S through the regulator? and if so, how is this done? just by splitting the main 12v output line of the carnetix?

    Thanks very much =D

    That post contains power calculators.

You will need to use the power calculators to determine how much power you will need for your system.

60 watts is pretty low power. I'd hope that you wouldn't be plugging anything else into your system. If possible, I'd go with a step-up on the PSU. The lilliput monitor requires regulated power. If the monitor has the egg on the power lead, then you can wire it directly into the car. If not, then you need to run it off of the PSU, which will increase your power requirements.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the quick reply

Ive ran through some of the calculators and on average it looks like my system will take roughly 55 - 65W and ill need to regulate the T/S as i didnt get a power adapter with it (i borrowed one from my external hdd to get it working indoors)

so lets say 70W for the system and 10W for the T/S = 80W... how do you think the 90W version of the carnetix (Carnetix CNX-P1290 90W) would cope with it?

I think the 90 watt would do fine.

I was running the M1-ATX on my old system and I had a good deal more running off of USB.

However, I would check the different rails. It's not just an overall wattage raiting tha you need to consider.

hehe that was the other thing, i have no clue as to how the rail supplies work or how to test them, ive done a quick search but every answer ive seen has been a bit too complicated for me, but what i do know is:

    90W Carnetix:-
    # Main output of +12V @ 6.3 Amps
    # Secondary output of +5V @ 3 Amps

So all i need to do is check the current for everything on these 2 rails using P/VxI... or is there other voltages a computer requires... i thought it was just 12v, 5v, and a constant 5v+ for the usb ports..,. is that right?

FAQ: Will <insert PSU model> Power Supply work with my system?

that thread should be pretty beneficial for you at this point...if you haven't already seen it.
