Electronic Sensitive Devices, how careful should we be?

I have now obtained the coilcraft, maxim, and national parts.

Before I start to solder and use these parts I would like to know...

How serious are the warnings on each packet/box, do i really have to "USE PROPER ESD HANDLING PROCEDURES"???

Has everyone else just ignored this or have you earthed yourself in some way.

    Thanks Again.

regarding the choke's: don't worry, that's just a piece of wire, it won't harm touching it

you should be more be more carefull with the chips, althought those chips are pretty "strong" (like all regulators usually are).

I only ground myself when i'm working with cellular phones, other than that i don't care much.

You will notice this kind of warning on any computer component except the case and PSU.

As long as you use an anti staic mat (even the bag it can in, and discharge your self against something metal and eathed before touching it (or after moving around) you "Should" be OK, but if your one of the unlucky people who built enough static to run a generator, then a wist strap might be a good investment.

I don't know if I build that much static, but usually I always get 'spikes' touching something metal, wheter it be a door-handle or a car...
But the most 'entertaining' part.... eurhmmm..
    was..
    when I kissed some girl.....
    man... that was silly.
we didn't touch eachother before we kissed.
and I .. yeah well.. was like really static..
The moment she kissed me.. (or I kissed her) a pretty big spike came of her lips (horizontal, mouth.. lol) and pretty much hurt her on the lips..
needless to say the kissing between that girl was over....
    stupid thing is.
I've never experienced that again (and I have kissed some girls)
I think this was just a co-incidence.. or she might be static to..
    hahahahaha

Did she have braces/metal retainer? Obvious cause, and pretty damned amusing.

    Otherwise, pretty unlucky.
