Any problems with Opus 80w DC-DC

draining the battery in standby mode?

I am trying to decide if I want to connect it so that it only receives power when the car is on and then turn on the computer manually, or to have it triggered by ACC to turn on and off the carputer. I don't want to have to call a tow truck when the opus has drawn to omuch power or something stupid.

    Thanks.

Well manually completely defeats the purpose of the Opus or any other smart dc-dc psu.

If you leave the computer in standby and have the opus set to never gard off, then your battery will be dead in 2-3 days of non-use because standby requires quite a bit of power.

Hibernation and shutdown require 0 power when off, and the drain from the opus is negligable.

Just install it correctly and everything will be fine.

    Read the specs:
    Features
    - 80 Watt output
    - High Efficiency DC-DC Power Supply (extended battery life)
    - Wide input voltage range (7V-32V)
    - Built in auto shutdown
    - Delayed shutdown timer
    - On/Off power switch input
    - Remote trigger output
    - Load dump protected
    - High efficiency (extended battery life)
    - User configurable Start-up / Shut-down voltage
    - Simple to install

    Applications
    - Commell LV-671 Mini-ITX Pentium-M Motherboard
    - VIA Epia TC Mini-ITX C3 main boards
    - LCD monitors that require regulated 12V in automotive application, etc.
    - Single Board Computers
    - External Hard Drives
In the features, I'll point ouy Built in auto shutdown and delayed shutdown timer. Those two indicate to me that the unit has a built-in startup/shutdown controller, which means that it has circuitry that will control startup/shutdown the PC depending on the state of the ignition.

What do you intend to power with a comparatively low-output Opus 80w unit?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Seb, just make sure you do not get a CNX-1900. I am having little luck with it.

Thanks, I am aware that it has the startup/shutdown feature. I was more concerned about what the chances are of a malfunction, or that the computer doesn't shut down properly and having the thing drain my battery.

My motherboard is an Advantech single board computer which pulls 5A@5V max. Plenty of power left in the Opus. The notebook hard drive is powered directly off the motherboard, so I assume that the Max current draw listed for the SBC includes anything attached to it.

I should also be able to run the screen off of it too.
