    Shutdown Controller Problem!!!

    CarPuter Update:

im in the final stages of my carputer..currently i rethought it and got an indash screen(dscustoms) instread of my dennisK touch screen due to security issues..It may go on Sale on here..Stay Tuned... ...Also the dscustoms screen look pretty DAMN good for composite...Alsl im using an Aitech Max View scan converter that works great...

    My Problem:

im finally gettin a chance to hook up my shutdown controller...Im testing it at home first before i test it in my car...im using maestro's shutdown controller...I get the black and red wires hooked up and the relay kicks in and the LEDS turns on...Then i connect the white and yellow wire for a sec and the relay and LED turn off after the set time i set it to....The problem im having is that when i give 12VDC to the blue wire nothing happens after that??..isnt the relay supposed to turn on???
Also the orange goes to my DC-DC PSU..It goes to the +12 ..so what does the PSU ground connect to??
i connected the PSU unit ground to the ground on the shutdown controller and connected the orange to the +12 of the PSU...connected the red and black to power on the shutdown controller and everything worked...the PSU turned on...but when i hit the kill switche it doesnt turn on...
    Any suggestions/help would be appreciated,,,,thank

    oh yeah!
    BTW
I did SEarch and read every other threads on this and YES i read the instructions that came with it also!!!!

Hmmm very funny have you ever connected ith red and the black wire to wrong polarity ????

It should go on when you connect the blue wire to +12 of the car..

Hey you have to keep the red and the black wire on constantly meaning there should always be power connected to the SD through the red & black wire then connect the blue wire and the relay will kick on after the kill time

    Try it

NO...i havent connected them wrongly...it turns on and everything but after the kill switch gets initialized...it doesnt turn back on again unless i repeat Step 1 of ur instructions......
and YES i have know u have to keep constant power to the red and black wires...

How long are you connecting blue wire to 12v for? On the one I built it takes around 8 seconds before switching back on...

I have to agree, it does sound like the 74hc14 has failed. When building mine I originally had a problem where it would turn on, but not ever switch off. I traced through all the components 10 times before I changed the chip. I assumed that since it was partially working it couldnt be the chip.

Dont forget that even if its new and unused it doesnt mean it works. These things are produced on a large scale and dont get tested, so of course there will inevitably be a few duds.

Phil this one is my creation so i have tested it before i mail it ..

But the 74HC14 is a very sensetive chip that even a slighted error shall kill it ...

Spyder forget the reason for its failure just replace it .. if you want i can mail one to you..

    But shipping shall take time.

    Let me know

I have a problem with my shutdown controller as well....it takes 20 seconds for the inverter to turn on after the ignition is turned on. The longer you set the shutdown delay for....the longer the unit takes before it will power the inverter....i dont understand why there should be any connection?

    Any ideas?

    Brad
