    Athalon XP 3000+ and M2-ATX

I currently have a Via MII 10000 ruing street deck but am thinking about upgrading to my shuttle mobo with a Athalon XP 3000+ and a 1u server heat sink.

Will the M2-ATX be able to power a Athalon XP 3000+? Would under clocking it help?

    good luck using a M2

Buy a geode NX 1750 cpu instead.

Theoretically, is will work, however you're going to have very little power left over on the 12v rail for other devices.
If you run the system with a laptop HDD, I'm pretty certain it would work.

I run an AthlonXP mobile 2400+ on a Shuttle FN41 with a 1u heatsink. IT's powered by a DSATX and runs just fine, with lots or pwer to spare. Granted, I'm running a mobile processor.

I would try to latch onto an AthlonXP mobile CPU, assuming you can find one. They use less power, which is what you want in the car. They also generate less heat, which is another benefit in the car.

I agree with KingofCoronoa that a higher-rated PSU would be a good idea. I think the 320w Opus is probably overkill. The 220w DSATX or the Opus 250w would most likely serve you well. Just go easy on the video if the Shuttle doesn't have it onboard.

I think its the same board you have the dual vga...

right now i have the via, laptop hdd, lilliput, gps, amp turn on, powered by it.

I'm going to power it up when in the house and see what options i have for under clocking it.

The Athlon 3000+ will EAT the M2-ATX alive with smoking flavor.
You will be better off with the DSATX or the 250 Opus.

My Matrix setup on the DSATX barely make it on the 5V rails.

I'm running a Sempron 3300 with an ASUS K8V-VM off an M2-ATX, with a samsung 2.5" 80gb, and have had not a single problem. I believe the Sempron probably uses less power than the old Athlon XP though.

This CPU/MB combo was DIRT cheap here, $130AUD brand new.
