Can I do Tools -> GPS Options -> Auto Detect????
here is the picture of the button that needs to be pressed to reinitialize the usb gps receivers. it would be really slick if you could send a command to click this button.

was a very long walk... sorry i got side tracked. so it works to do "gps options->autodetect but several windows asking for the user to press buttons come up afterwards. one says "please connect your gps receiver. click ok to proceed." then it says, gps found on such and such a port and you have to click ok. i think i left out a few but i think you can pretty much press enter through all of it and it will start to track again.
Ok, cool. I think I figured out what I'm gonna do. The user will have to specify the port and I will go to Tool -> GPS options -> COM port -> Comm <user defined>.
