Hey 0l33l & friends, I finally got around to installing navivoice and played around with it last night. I'm pretty impressed even though my first run at it wasn't as good as I hoped, I blame a lot of it on my inexperience & crappy mic. I've already ordered the logitech mic to correct that issue, the 2nd is mainly documentation/instructions.
While I consider myself savvy enough to figure this stuff out (and I will damnit), I think it would be a lot easier to get users into this if there were more easily laid out instructions on how to modify the program to their needs. I'm still using a
combination of searching the forums and sifting through code to see if I can find all the things I can do to make it work with my programs.
Perhaps if we can create sticky threads per program to use with navivoice. For example, I know it works with
Iguidance, but what all can I do with NaviVoice AND Iguidance? Not only would a list of commands be easy to see and use (i know it's somewhere in a file), but perhaps user created macros that would aid in making it more functional. I'm sure many people would like to borrow macro ideas and tips from other people using the same program.
I also get error pop-ups which stop navi from working. I assume it's because it thinks I said something to command a program I either don't have open, or don't even have installed. When I'm using my frontend (Centrafuse), I don't even know "boris" stopped working until I repeat "boris" 10 times and realize, he really isn't there anymore, then I have to minimize/close my frontend, click on "OK" or restart navivoice to get it working again. I wish I knew what I could delete in navivoice to remove any command it would attempt on a program I don't use. For instance, I don't want navivoice to attempt or issue any mapmonkey commands cause I don't have it in the first place. Maybe there could be an option in the config utility to click a check box next to the applications you have installed that navivoice works with?
Anyways, I'm rambling, but expect more posts here from me (maybe less once I figure things out!) as I play around with this cool program. I'm sure once I master my way around it, I'll love it and install it on my system at home too! But, others might not have the patience to fiddle around with it as I do.
