So Power Control or Voice Voice then?

I like Voice Control, says it simple and direct.

yes but if you say "I use voice control its not clear your talking about software" whereas NaviVoice is definately a brand name as is power voice, and you will eventually want to market it?

Yes, he will probably want to market it. However, legally speaking, here is the deal.

Words that have no original meaning, are easily Trademarked (tm) because of thier unique nature.

However, any word with a meaning, or combination of words that have meaning seperately, even if used in a novel way, or put together with other words, must gain what is called "secondary meaning". So, no matter what he calls it, NaviVoice, Voice Control, Power Voice, as long as he gets secondary meaning, he can tm it. Secondary meaning occurs generally when it is recognized as being a product from a particular source. So, if people in the know, recognize that "Voice Control, Power Voice or Navi Voice" is an application created, and sold from 0l33l, then he has attained secondary meaning, and it is tm'able.

I Get the picture but that wasn't what I meant, I was thinking more along the lines of a recognisable name that was distinctive not ambiguous and had a feel of quality about it. The legal stuff is what solicitors fight over not meaning that you should pick a name at random as you may fall foul of copyright laws but the name thats chosen must have a clear message about whats in the box. As often people buy goods only on the strength of the of the products name or hidden promise, or even the appeal of the picture on the can.

I agree with you. Just got confused by your statement I guess. "Brand name" just automatically clicked in head as a Trademark. Sorry.

Now, if only I could be sitting back with a pint of ale, at the local pub. I could be and getting all right now, trying to avoid and trying to some with out her boyfriend
