Microphone mount suggestions

Hey all. i picked up the Logitech mic (1/8" jack) that people were recommending. I put the monitor mount base on it and attached it to the bar to the left of my windshield so it goes up parallel to the bar when i'm not using it and out towards me when i am. The sticky tape stuff does little to hold it up and over night it falls. I tried another piece of carpet tape in between. It held longer, but still falls. What can i do to attach it, preferably not permamently. Would rubber cement hold it, but come off w/ Goo Gone?

The double side sticky tape auto body shops use to attach body trim is a hell of a lot stronger than the hardware store stuff. Trouble is, it's expensive, particularly as all you need is a short piece. There is some "super strong" double stick at Radio Shack, don't know if it's the same thing. It also holds better than the hardware store stuff. Be sure you "clean the place you are gonna stick it" with rubbing alcohol.

Epoxy similar to what they use to attach rear view mirrors might allow you to mount it in the corner of your window.

Super glue

Attach it to your rear view mirror. Maybe that would hold better.

you could try silicone. you can get a good, thick coat of it on there easily but it should peel off when you want it to.

hmmm. that may work. I have that silicone stuff for electronics from radio shack. think that would be better than the stuff for tubs?

Have you tried 3M mounting tape? I love this stuff... It is really strong. I had a hefty radar detector that weighed maybe 1/4 lb, mounted to my windshield using 3M mounting tape. It never fell, even after 2 years. The main thing you need to remember when using any mounting tape is that both surfaces need to be somewhat smooth, and clean clean clean.

I gave this a go. The tape did seem quite a bit stickier. i also used rubbing alcohol to treat the trim before sticking it on. It didn't even have a chance of sticking. For some reason, this trim does not let anything stick to it. I guess i'll have to put it in my visor.

Look for a recent post about a guy with a motorcycle and his car puter. Its all voice controlled and I think he said that used a clip on military microphone that uses the vibrations from your throat to work, rather than a standard mic setup. Might be worth looking into before you glue it down.
