exactly....look at the amount of time and money HTC had to spend just to get a half decent GUI out of android...look at all the issues it caused with compatibility....and look at how many times they had to delay releases months behind schedule due to bugs and other issues with the OS. Theres a reason no one else has tried to do what HTC did.....

Well, there's got to be a big reason why Nokia, the biggest handset phone maker in the world would rather start from scratch developing their own OS rather than use Android. It would be "easier" to just use android because Qt, the toolkit they own already works on Android right?

For smartphone OS's, you don't have a choice but Android right now. You can't just license iOS and slap it on your phone. Up until Windows Phone 7, there was no other choice but Android.

nokia has been in the handset os market since such a thing existed.. that's their reason. Android, hell even the iphone are just upstarts that they want squashed.

iphone/android might be ruling the air here in the US.. but worldwide nokia owns around 70% of the marketshare for handset os' and they're scared that they have 3 major competitors now (goog, apple and rim) that might do more than just chip away at what was a 90% worldwide dominance like 3 years ago.

That 70% consists of symbian phones which i think you can get one free when you fill up gas in certain European countries. Symbian really doesn't compete in the same market as Android/iOS and Nokia knows this. Nokia is just a handset maker, like Motorola/HTC/Samsung. In order to compete in the new smartphone market they had the use a more compelling operating system. Android existed at the time so you tell me why they decided to invest millions in their own software development instead of using something that was free?
