my experience is that the install will take about 1-2 hours since its so slow to install and run an os off usb.. so be prepared to spend at least a day...

once you have it all running like you want all there is to it is to activate horm:

    (4) Enable hibernation
    > powercfg.exe /h ON

    (5) Disable false bootstat warnings
    > bcdedit.exe /set {current} bootstatuspolicy ignoreallfailures

(6). Enable EWF on all partitions
    > ewfmgr.exe /all /enable

    (7) Restart to have the command take effect
    > shutdown.exe /r /t 0

    (8). Activate HORM
    > ewfmgr.exe C: /activatehorm

(9). Capture the HORM state by hibernating the machine once
    > shutdown.exe /h

    (10) Resume the machine and start using HORM. At this point each restart should result in a resume from the state captured in the previous step

    (11) If you wish to deactivate HORM
    > ewfmgr.exe C: -deactivatehorm

    (12) If you wish to disable ewf (disable HORM first)
    > ewfmgr.exe /all /disable
    followed by a restart

yolu can get the eval version here: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...ad-110476.html

without keys eval is 30 days...

from what i have discovered the license keys are about 95$ each... you just have to find a distributor that is willing to sell them

Awesome, thanks for the information sounds like a very good way to go.
I have emailed my local distributor to see what they say.

Yeah, i think we may be talking about slightly different products here. You're discussing Windows Embedded 7, which , as you say, (can be) a stripped down version of the standard Windows 7 for x86 platforms. I was speaking of Windows Embedded Compact 7 , which runs on x86 OR ARM processors and shares it's lineage with WinCE 6.0. Regular Windows 7 drivers DO NOT work with WEC7.

Sorry for the confusion this may have created in this thread.

Windows 7 Embedded + standard PC hardware = (potentially) smaller OS footprint and faster loads.
Windows Embedded Compact 7 + x86 or ARM hardware = (potentially) very small footprint instant on devices.

    Ah that explains a lot
Yeah the compact would be good but as you point out too many complications for what is supposed to be a "simple" car computer (yeah right simple...)
However if a license for standard embedded could be found that could be very handy to speed up boots and reduce the cost.

Will have a look around a bit more for that one!

    hi again

i forgot to say why its so damm slow, its because when it detects you install on a USB stick it will disable the use of the page file, which you should anyway as not to put more use on the stick than you have to...

tomorrow i'm going to do those final steps above and will report back how it works

    Cool.

The more I tried to find out about licensing the harder it seemed.. Unless you have a device to embed it on and sell it seemed like you are out of luck..
I also don't know what your chances are of stealing a license off another device with it installed..
