I actually prefer it to work like that (the way in Johns pic) it looks kinda cool.

The only thing I could do about it is to add a command to show/hide labels at your disposal.. but I can't make them like non-scrollable labels due to the nature of the object.. let me know.
    Ok, now I know...
...but if you can add such a command to hide/show labels at my disposal, I'll let them be shown alternatively... and it's just the same result! .

For the menu transparency this is my analisys of the problem... I'll try to be the clearest I can:

When a menu appears it should have just the portion of the background it covers as its own background, but I think there will be two cases of possible menus.
Suppose to have an audio browser skin in which ,pressing the "search by letter" button, a menu will appear at the bottom of the screen as shown in the picture below.
In the picture you can see the two cases:

    1- red box
The menu has the right portion of the background as its own background, but it cancels the portion of the skin underneath. This is the right case for the example below because it's clearer than red box, and it is the right case for the menu which has to replace a part of the skin.

    2- yellow box
The menu has the right portion of the background as its own background and it lets you see the skin underneath, so its real background is a merging between the portion of the background and the portion of the OFF layer of the skin underneath or in other words the portion of the OUT layer at the moment in which the menu is called. This is the case (in my opinion) for the JohnWPB's example (I've got a lot of menu of that kind) because the menu should let you see the playlist and the other elements of the skin underneath... and, being darker, the playlist won't disturb the clarity of the menu.

I can't choose between the two cases, because there are different applications which require the two different cases...
so it could be wonderful to have the two types and to choose the type by two different commands like MENU and MENU2...

...but I'll understand if you'll say it's hard to have even one

I see what you are saying, but you can also adjust the level of the transparency of the images to the level you want, to either block out the background, or to let it show through. In the below test, I set different levels of transparency on the buttons in Photoshop, then saved it out to a PNG file. The top button is completely transparent, working its way to the bottom button which is almost solid.

Hi John, probably my english is not so good ...
I know that I can reduce in Photoshop the transparency of the layers...
(how can I do my skin without it? )
what I mean is that sometimes I WANT to see the background as the yellow box shows really because I can reduce the menu transparency and the skin underneath is not a problem...
...later I'll do some picture to explain it better.

I see what you're trying to do, think. When you call the "SKIPTO" menu on the bottom of the skin, you want the background as pointed out in the redbox, but not the icons that you see as part of the background in the yellow box.

Have you tried using LOADIMG to load the icons in your skin, then LOADIMG to remove them before loading the "SKIPTO" menu?

Maybe a combination of pink transparencies and SETVAR;BACKGROUND?

    pictures more than words...

ok,ok... here are some picture to describe my idea.

with the current RR version this is what appears with a menu.

this is what a menu should appear without background resizing (how it should be).

this is what my feature request is.

I don't want that "my feature request" replace the "how the menu should appear", but I wish I were able to choose between the two types at my disposal.
I hope I let you undestand what I really mean...

I think understand what you mean, but your now.jpg, and your correct.jpg (first 2 pictures above are exactly the same) I do wish the 3rd picture was an option as well. that can sort of be done now. You just need to set the transparency in the pop-up menu you want to appear transparent. In your Pop-up skin, put the following line: v,90

the v,90 means that on a scale of 1 to 100 it is 90% visible. Here is my "ratings.skin" with v,90 in it. This is not a Photoshop image, but a screen capture of RR running.

The problem still remains, that the image in the background of the menu, is a scaled down image of the background, and you are not just seeing the background behind the pop-up.

the first two picture are not the same, the second background is not resized.
BTW I didn't know the v optionn for the transparency... I'll try it but I think it will be the solution to my problem!
    Thanks John.
I agree with you: the resize is still the last problem

I had to use the 2 photo's that you posted above in a slide show to see the subtle difference You may want to use a nice clear image, such as a flower, or a landscape or something that really shows what you mean.

Yea, the v,xx has been helpful to me many times. It is in the SkinCommands.txt file, but doing a search for "Transparent" won't find it, it's called "Visibility" instead.

I just wanted to add here that if the Randomize list function were employed, we would be able to get the next song from the playlist and display it on the screen in addition to solving the shuffle problem.

Guino, thank you for this release, I worship you.
