    ONSKINSTART - How does it work?

    I have "ONSKINSTART","NULL" (NULL does nothing) coded in my ExecTbl.ini which is in the RR directory and there are no others on the system.

    The only time I see it in debug.txt is when the initial menu.skin starts.

    I never see it again dispite navigating from skin to skin.

    Additionally, I never see an ONSKINEND dispite the fact that I have it coded as well as "ONSKINEND","NULL".

    I expected to see both on each skin transition. If that's not the way it works, is there some other incatantation that will "execute" at the beginning and end of each skin?

    Any thoughts?

    Regards,
    Jim

    ONSKINEND is not a RR command and therefore it does nothing.
    ONSKINSTART is used when you want to execute a command like
    "ONSKINSTART","SAY;Good Day Sir||AUDIO||PLAY"
    Now whenever a skin starts it will say Good Day Sir, switch to the audio player and starts playing.

    Don't confuse skin with .skin

    ONSKINSTART only happens when a SKIN is first loaded, not when a screen changes from one .skin to another .skin

    To get something to rum on first load od a .skin you could use the timer function.

    Set a TIMER in exectbl.ini to do what ever you want to happen in each .skin and then add a TMR with a number after with the amount of seconds delay.

    MGD,

    Using your example, could I code:

    "ONSKINSTART","SAY;Good Day Sir||AUDIO||PLAY",TV.skin

    and have it only execute when TV.skin is started/switched to?

    BTW, in my test I have ONSKINSTART coded to do just as you say, except it executes a null command and it ONLY executes when the initial menu.skin starts but no where else. That's the root of my problem.

    And if I search the RR forums there are many references to ONSKINEND including one from quino where he docs ONSKINSTART as the companion for ONSKINEND.

    Regards,
    Jim

    Enforcer,

    Now I curious.

    If I see the ONSKINSTART executing on the initial start of menu.skin, why don't I see it when I transition from menu.skin say XM.skin the first time?

    And when should I see the ONSKINEND execute, if ever?

    Regards,
    Jim

    Enforcer,

    OK, I'll look at TIMER and TMR.

    Thanks,
    Jim

    @O'Brien

    Once again ONSKINSTART only happens on the very first load of a SKIN (BMV2, iDrive, LSXVoid, Digital FX, Simplistic or whatever) it does not happen every time you changes a screen (ie .skin file, xm.skin,menu.skin,audio_player.skin or whatever.skin).

    ONSKINEND (if it is valid) will happen when a SKIN change happens ie when you go from iDrive to BMV2 or LSXVois to DigitalFX.

    or Exit RoadRunner.

    @MGD Who are you asking 'are you talking to me?'?

    enforcer, I thought you where refering to my code.
    I know Onskinstart works only when changing skins and not from Menu to Audio or Gps. I think Onskinend is not a valid command.
