Yes, I think that you could..... But why? an 800 x 600 Gif would be quite a large file. Road Runner does not support animated gif's, if that is your next question

As far as I know, Road Runner can use .Gif, .Bmp, .Jpg and now recently .png as background images.

Yes, PNG support was added a couple months back. I re-did all of the XM icons, as well as the GPS gas icons as much higher resolution versions. It has really made a difference on transparent icons for sure! No more 256 color crappy limit.

As for animated gif's, it is not supported in any way by RR at this point. The only way you are going to animate something is to make a small flash file, such as the spinning logo's for car manufacturer's, and the XM and Sirius spinning logo's. I had asked Guino some time ago about animated gif support, and without lots and lots of work, and changing the RR code significantly, it's just not feasible to do so.

Here is a comparison between the .gif and the .png versions:

Just a little bit of a difference huh?

    guess I'm missing something

if I put this in my skin file:
    IMG,193,191,462,102,"logo.bmp","OUT"
the logo image displays nice but with some bugs in border transparences due to some photoshop changing on pure pink when saving

    but if I put this:
    IMG,193,191,462,102,"logo.png","OUT"
the logo does not shows at all. the png logo is LOTS better than the bmp one and got the hidef transparencies/shadows options

another issue on .png files are that when I put the same image as .png in the background, RR only shows a black strip. if I press ESC, part of my exit_menu displays (its in bmp) than I can click to exit RR. If I convert the same image to .bmp than put it on BG, the screen displays nicely

so, is there any trick for displaying .png images and/or backgrounds in RR
the backgrounds displays fine on skin editor, but not the images

PS: I'm using the latest RR release (according to RR updater)
