Remote Desktop & CarPC Question

Ok, I recently purchased a tablet PC, and use it to connect to the CarPC with Remote Desktop.

To have Remote Desktop available on a PC so you can connect to it, you have to set a password for the user. When I disconnect, the CarPC screen has the login, and then requires you to type a password. I don't keep a keyboard handy in the car, and was wondering if there is some way around this? At that screen, there is no way to bring up Windows XP's OSK. On the tablet PC however, the Tablet PC's OSK comes up when you get to the login screen.

Is there some way to do this in XP, or some reg hack or something to allow Remote Desktop to connect to the CarPC and not have a user password assigned? I am not concerned about security, as I seriously doubt that someone driving down the road is going to try to get into my computer with their laptop! hahha Anyways, I have WEP enabled on the router in the car.

Any ideas?

ok this may not be what your looking for, but there are a few ways to setup

goto remote assistance, i think mines in the start menu, theres an option to save the invite as a file which you can specify whether you want a password or not.

Run that on your home computer, and you shouldnt have any problems with the password issue then.

Well I always have the admin account "Administrator" that is setup when you install XP to have a password. Then RD into that account and fiddle from there. It wont show up in the welcome screen or anything, so you can keep your primary account password free.

Other than that, there is the "control userpasswords2" that you type into a run dialogue and then uncheck the needs a password box. Never done it myself, but I dont see why it wouldnt work.

Thanks guys! Sounds like 2 very good options. Only thing, if I remember correctly, the remote assistance is time based, and will expire after a few days or something. That would be a perfect option though, as you could control the CarPC from either screen at the same time.

Gonna give em both a try and see what I come up with. Thanks again!

You could use VNC instead. It has a separate password from windows and won't kick you back to windows login screen.

If none of the other suggestions proves satisfactory you may want to try the CNS vkey on screen keyboard. It will allow you to easily enter the password on your carputer. Whenever a data entry box is present a little icon appears. When you click the icon the keyboard comes up. When you enter the data and hit okay the keyboard then disappears. It will even allow you to zoom so you can see what you're typing in the box. I use it a lot not only in RR, but for all my applications on the carputer. Only drawback is that it's not skinnable. It's gotten hard to find it online, so if you're interested let me know and I'll email you the zip file (4.5 meg).

+1 on VNC, that is what I use (TightVNC) and its free.

VNC is good. You can also set up a shortcut with the password/username preset so you just click it and you are in.

But what has this got to do with RR?
