Uninstalled Road Runner - Everything Slow Now - RRConfig Won't Start

So I had everything working but since I had one Road Runner install on top of another and also an iGuidance install on top of another, both from upgrades from previous versions, and I was having a lot of trouble getting iGuidance to embed in the skins, I figured I'd uninstall everything and do a fresh install. So I removed the programs from the Control Panel, though Road Runner was still there in its entirety after that. That was weird but whatever. So I deleted the folder instead. Then I downloaded the RR Installer from Webmaster's thread. I installed that, then installed iGuidance3 from CD. Everything installed fine but now the computer's pretty slow, I didn't do anything else. When I click to open Road Runner it takes 10-15 seconds and also has a longer delay between switching screens. And when I try to open up RRConfig.exe it takes so long it just doesn't open up at all. Seriously, it won't open at all. I have to copy rr.ini from my previous install and edit it manually for anything I want. So I downloaded the Updated RRConfig from the Road Runner forum and that won't run either. I get the hourglass near the mouse pointer for a few seconds but then nothing. BUT.....when I go to shutdown Windows, it does END TASK for every instance of RRConfig that was trying to run. If I tried to open it 6 times, I'd have to END TASK 6 times before Windows will shut down. Any ideas?

you f'ed up the registry keys. It was still showing in the Add/Remove Programs because it wasnt removed properly. So windows still thinks it is in Location A. Now you installed it again to Location B. So when windows tries to access it looks at Location A and goes "where the f did it go?" searches and finds it at Location B links it and it is a whole big 'ol jumble of mess.

Easy way: Reinstall XP start Fresh.

Hard way: undo what you undid and fix all the registry entries.

A system restore may also help, and be easier than wiping XP and reloading it.

System restore like putting the XP CD back in and doing a restore with it?

No. And also no XP CD "Restores". The ones that restore are the proprietary versions that come with new computers. You dont get an XP CD, you get their crap.

XP CDs can repair, but is useless unless you know what you are doing.

He means System Restore. Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Restore

Then you get a calendar, and pick a day to go back to. It is like time travel!

Can't I just rename the folder it's installed to so then the registry points to the right place?

I know a lot of people turn of System Recovery, and that is another story. In my case, I leave it turned on, at the cost of a few CPU cycles and Hard drive access. It's a trade off, but has saved my a$$ quite a few times.

If you have system restore enabled on the PC, simply restore to a couple days before you wiped out the files. It will put your computer back to that point, and you can just remove everything the right way.

Okay so here's where I'm at. System Restore has always been disabled, I turned it off when I stripped XP. So I went to the Add/Remove Programs and took out Road Runner. Then I went into 2 different folders I had it installed into and ran the Uninstall.exe which removed most of the files. Then I deleted the remaining files. Then I deleted a few backup files I had on the desktop. I reinstalled to the same directory name, copied the old skin folder into the fresh install and ran Road Runner, it loaded pretty quick and worked fine. I'm happy with that. The only problem is I can't get into RRConfig.exe, I try to start it and it just sits there. Doesn't lock up the machine but it won't run. And when I try to shutdown Windows, it comes with up the END TASK window for RRConfig.exe like it's been trying to run the whole time. So it looks like I may have everything fixed except the config program, any other way I can run it? I found that I can move it to another directory like the Desktop and run it from there fine. Then take the rr.ini file it creates and copy that back into my Road Runner directory and all is good. But is there a better way?

Also I know notice my volume+/volume-/mute buttons aren't working. They light up when I touch them but nothing happens. I know the (skin) code is fine since I copied the exact skin folder from my working desktop setup and put it in my car. For some reason in there it doesn't work. See screenshot below for said buttons.

trying to find the cause will prob take longer than a full format.

Maybe next time make a clone image using something like HDClone (Free) once you have it setup the way you want and working. If you have a problem again you can just restore the image again! and its good as new!

Okay so I'll format it tonight if I have to but if you can answer my next question I might not have to. I tried changing between skins and the volume/mute buttons still don't work in any skin so it must be something in the code in the Road Runner install. I tried reinstalling it but still the same problem. Anyone know where in the Road Runner files it specifies the volume buttons or what they do?
