It has something to do with your ID3 tags, search for "strange characters" and you'll find something about it.

I am actually doing some work with the Tag support.. if anybody know a (preferably small and free) application I can use to produce these "corrupt" tags, I'd like to take a whack at it.

well they showed up for me after I re-tagged my entire music library with tag & rename, trial mode should be enough for testing... is there anyway to get it to show v3 tags since that seems to be the problem in most cases?

I think I have the same problem with some files - I used the demo of tag and rename to fix it (and then break it again to make sure it was the issue) - if it's set to write the tags as unicode then they end up with corrupted characters, if they are set to non unicode then they work fine - you can rewrite the tags on the same set of files over and over to break and then fix them.

I used that ID3 Tag It and it it gave me the strange characters, so I improved it so the weird stuff doesn't show anymore. Seems to work but I have to try some different files to see how well it's actually working.
