    Text a phone for security?

    Hello all,

    Browsed around for a bit and couldn't find this. I was wondering if after 3 tries of inputing a passkey in the security plug-in, if via some autoit script or other mean, the computer will connect to the internet, go to a free text messaging site, and text your phone a warning. I have one of those broadband wireless cards, so connecting to the internet isn't a problem. I just don't know where to begin.

    TIA

    O.k. Let's start with some examples, then some question. My home automation system do much like you want your car to do: whenever I'm away from home and one of my perimeter sensors is tripped, it sends a text message to my phone and if I don't respond in 5 minutes it then forwards a captured picture to the phone from the camera that triggered the alert; all alerts are recorded to DVR for 5 minutes for later review. This doesn't require an autoit script its actually just a command line batch file.

    So some question, what cell service do you use? Can your phone accept emails? Are you running your front-end as your shell? Have you searched the net for any of the freeware programs that text your cellphone via command line? After all the above is done are you willing to present it to the SCREENLOCK author for inclusion as an option of the original program?

    It's a great concept, but kinda unfulfilling. I can think of few places I'd leave my car open where I wasn't close by and my alarm has 1/4 mile range. Auto service is one, but the PC is usually disabled or removed (dealerships have a hard enough time diagnosing engine and tranny issues so I don't distract them with the tablet and joystick.) Valet parking is another, but again it easier to disable it than explain it. (actually, after reading another users post about his ar being driven over 100MPH at the dealership, I leave it on recording the GPS and shut off the screen and joystick.)

    In my case, I probably could use it to notify me if the tablet was removed from the dock and then every five minutes after while its on it could send its GPS coordinates, but even then most snatch and grab car breakins are over in 60 seconds, and I can't imagine the cops believing me when I tell them someone broke into my car, stole my CarPC, and my tablet is at these coordinates - LETS GO GET THESE BASTARDS!

    I'm sure there are a multitude of other uses for your car to text your phone (inside temp over 150F, outside temp below 0, alarm trigger, etc.) Keep me informed of your progress.

    I first want to say that your home automation systems sound fantastic. Did you do it yourself or did you buy a package?

    But to answer your questions:

    I currently have Verizon as my carrier, but I most likely will be switching to AT&T when my contract is up. The phone I will be getting does not recieve emails, but I believe I can download an app for the phone that will tell me when I get an email. I would rather use text messeging instead.

    Also, I wasn't aware that there were programs that can text messege a phone, I have only done that via a webpage, like text4free.net or text.vzw.com, but you have to enter the phone, carrier, your email, the text message, then a code they give you. I guess the alternative to this would be to open an email client and send an email to a cell phone account (for instance for a verizon customer [email protected])

    There are professional susbription services, but since I will only be using maybe 5 times a year I don't think that's a reasonable option.

    I just to be notified it someone is trying to access my screen after I have turned it to standby or something.

    As far as the valle and mechanical work, I usually just shut off my computer for those instances.

    I just dont' know where to begin to create something like this.

    I am planning on adding something like this to access control.

    Search the forums if interested.

    These are just some more ideas to toss out there:
    I have a very basic set-up working that will optionally send to email quietly in the background and run what every rr commands you want (SETVOL;MASTER;80||PLAY) after a determined amount of failures. It's doesn't do the record video/audio. It's written in autoit. Send to email works for texting with most providers I've seen....[email protected] will text my phone...not email as my phone doesn't have email installed. Also, the script checks a determined usb drive for a file that contains the lock code. If the lock code is correct, the lock-code authentication is bypassed automatically--car is started up, rr resumes, lock program runs, finds the usb and lockcode, rr is not interrupted, lock program exits. Without the correct usb/lock code the lock program starts the lock skin where the code must be typed in. This isn't a completed script, but it does work with my phone.

    Here is the ini:
    [locker]
    lockcode=lockcodehere
    Drive=Y:\
    lockcmd=MUTE
    unlockcmd=EXIT||MUTE
    attempts=3
    attemptscmd=SETVOL;MASTER;70||STOP||PLAY
    sendemail=TRUE
    smtpserver=server
    fromname=fromname
    fromaddress=[email protected]
    toaddress=toaddre[email protected]
    subject=multiple attempts failed
    message=Road Runner alert!!!
    attachfile=
    ccaddress=
    bccaddress=
    smtpusername=username
    smtppassword=password
    port=25
