Lightbulb RoadRunner + Video iPod - mixed success - some issues

Great work to the RR author for making it compatible with an iPod. While it's possible for me to replicate my mp3's onto to the laptop, it's far far more inconvenient than playing music directly off the iPod. Here's some issue I've run into:

    1) getting music to play from the iPod takes 2-3 minutes and some playing around with settings

I've tried various combinations. Plugging in while already running and hibernating then waking up to resume iPod playlist. Normally if you hibernate then wake up the computer, the music will resume exactly where it was left to hibernate. If the iPod is connected, it will not resume from the iPod music list. It seems to revert back to what's on the HD. In addition, it takes about 1.5 minutes to get RR to even respond when the iPod is connected, and another minute to browse to it from the playlist window.

    2) Playlists displays in RR are not the same as on the iPod

What RR displays is not the same as you would see on the iPod's playlist listing. I use names like XRT (Favorites 4+) or Favorites +4 or Movie Soundtracks (4++). I wonder if RR is having problems parsing special characters.

    3) Podcasts do not show up.

I don't watch VideoPodCasts, but I do listen to alot of Audio PodCasts. Unfortunately these do not show up at all.

    4) There's no file system browser.

Creating a playlist on the fly via the traditional RR method is difficult and probably dangerous while driving. I would be alot better if RR had the option of browsing and playing directly, instead of having to put things into a playlist for playback.

    5) Cover art shows up wrong.

I think RR is supposed to search for the first JPG in the directory and display it for mp3's that do not have an embedded album artwork. How can I turn this off? I don't like the default JPG displayed and I don't want to have to worry about putting custom JPGs in each folder.

Thanks again. RR is great and getting better everyday.

1-This has to do with iTunes/iPodService reading/managing the ipod upon immediate connection onto the PC.. I don't know if there's anything that can be done about it. RR simply checks to see if the iPod Drive+Files exist and if they do, reads them, that's about it.. everything else is handled by windows/itunes/ipodservice -- I personally HATE itunes and if I had an iPod, I'd be running RockBox on it (which then would work as an external hard drive)

2-I honestly don't know, never seen this.. maybe you want to give specific examples, meaning how it is displayed in the iPod and how it displays in RR ?

3-Sorry, when building iPod support, I had limited time available with the device itself, so many things were not implemented because of that (i.e. Video, PodCasts and on-the-fly playlists)

4-This can be done by editing the skin itself.. though I honestly have never tried it on the iPod library itself.. but it can be done for normal files for sure.. it's just a matter of organization..

5-You can disable Cover arts by setting the cover art file setting in the config from *.jpg to NOTHING (literally the word: nothing)..

    Guino, thanks for the reply.

    1) I didn't install iTunes. It's just reading the iPod as a mass media storage device. I assume it treats it almost like a USB memory stick.

Just out of curiosity, have you thought about mimicking the iPod interface to make it more usable in RR? I personally would love this.

The uber-expensive Pioneer AVIC-N3 does this. Check this out:

Click on Audio/Video --> iPod control. It'll load up in a few secs.
