Sorry to also hear about the past. Glad to see another new RR user, because of all the awesome options this software offers, it also means that new users are often perplexed to the what's and how's. Knowing that RR can be a pain to set up, and still deciding to go for it, with the added fact, shows that you are headed towards a great RR expereince!
I have done a LOT of work on that config, and it's just like RR, it will never be done!!
One of my things To-Do is to make a help button on each tab that hopefully better describes what each option is or does ( haven't even started on it yet) so that users such as your self can set each setting to what they believe is the best choice for their setup.
Now for some answers:
Even with the mouse hidden, sometimes effect different things, I beleive that these are mostly skin type issues. This setting has 3 settings, True, false, never. True= tells rr to not move the mouse when you click on a button in a skin that takes you to another screen, false is just oppsite of true, means that rr will move the mouse back to the bottom left cornner on every button click, and never tells rr to never ever move the mouse( the mouse will only move when the user command it to )4. leave mouse alone....what exactly does it do? if the hide mouse is checked, then how and what does checking this one do?
GDI+ is needed for needed for any of the transpartent skins. Depending on your hardware setup, using the GDI+ setting also alow's quicker screen changes, but if you not using a transparent skin, an have a very low end system, then one of the other options might be better for you. Also looks like there might be a small bug that showed up.6. screen fastmode....what does this one do? looks like GDI+ is the defualt
[color="Red"]this depends on the skin if its tranparent skin set to GDI+[color="Red"]
7. soundcard # 0......is that just for the software location or however thats explained? i have the mp915 with integrated sound if that helps anyThis setting is almost always set to 0, unless you have two or more sound cards installed in your setup. If you did, it tells rr which card you want to use.this for external cards i think <--
This setting only depends on your hardware once again, it was added because some video cards start having issues when there is too much video being used to cache the screens, so this setting limits the amount of screens that rr will keep in the cache, rotating least used screen first, before loading the new one. But also using the 3-min also means that if you change between more than 3 screens than the time to load each screen will not be as fast as upping it to say like 10. I have been using '0' for a while w/o probs(<--knocks on wood) which never deletes the loaded skin from memory.8. screen-limit: 3-min.....kinda self explanitory for the 3 minutes part, but hearing a better explanation will help a lot
minimum yes, best setting nothe amount of screens cached in the memory set to 3 min works well
leave it as defaulted9. ipod drive: .........i dont ever plan on using a ipod with my carputer, seems kinda dumb to me. but i see choices for a drive letter to choose. why would u need to assign a drive letter? i dont have a ipod, so that sorta confuses me.
Explained a little more(FYI): this is for user that wish to keep a smaller collection of music in their car and want to play what the have on their ipod. The drive letter would be so that rr would know where to look if it set to anything other than default, as when you plug in an ipod it shows up just like another drive on your comp. (<-- doesn't own one now and doesn't plan on it anytime in the far futre either.)
This is just like the setting on most portable cd players, where it plays the first x seconds from each track until you turn off the setting. ( Never used it then either)10. song intro / station scan (in seconds).........kinda self explanitory, but how does it get the song or station?
this controls the levels in your sound propertys matser vol + main vol, wave + wave vol and so on11. map master volume to control line (for pu$$y @ss soundcards)........does this one really matter? does RR affect a soundcard already turned up 75%? (its going to be a amped signal)
I pretty sure that it's not quite worded like that in the config...
Close, it only takes effect while rr is running, you close rr durring a time when the night gamma is set and you might be momentairly blinded b/c the screen will be set back to its original bright settings.16. gamma......is that tab for messing with display settings affecting only the RR skin?
most people use id3 tags i have mine set to mix v1 with v217. id3 tags.....there are different versions of id3 tags?
Yes, there are differnt versions of ID3 tags, the v1 only stared to list basic things like artist, album, ect. The v2 contains a lot more information as it get more popular, people wanted to be able to attatch more info about each song to the song.
winamp also plays visualtions, milkdrop, and avs vis.18. vis plugins....those look to be wmp only kind.
Sorta, depends on which backend player you are using, WA is the default player that rr uses and there are doz of different one that you could use, but the two that are list both come with the basic install of winamp and are the stablest ones to use in rr.
text in the skins most people leave this i think19. scroll mode....to scroll what? im gonna overdrive my few remaing brain cellls guess that is doing something with text.
Save those cell until you really need them later when you want to add or change something in a skin. The text in some areas do not fit the area designed to display them, so this option sets how the label will move in order to show all of the text that is in that label, example would be the current track name playing, in most skins it scroll the left.
No, this uses the speed from the GPS, if you have any setup, it works really good once you get it setup to your likeness.20. speed att volume......is there a rig that uses signal from the vss/ecm like my delco does?
So I hope that helps you out some more and any other new users confused by all these great features that all of RR's contributers( myself included) out.
