loading RR as a shell and usb devices

will USB GPS and cameras still be able to boot up if explore doesnt ever get to fire up? and what is the virus risk being connected to the internet without a fully running computer?

GPS and Camera will work normally. Risk of viruses is always the same -- strictly relevant to what the user does in the computer. Do read up on the sub-forums containing information on making RR run as the shell -- I myself just like putting it on the start menu.

I changed the setting in the registry to load roadrunner as the shell instead of explorer and I prefer that to using startup folder.

Windows starts right in RR allowing me to hide all icons on the screen during boot and lets me use a bitmap BMW logo as the desktop so you never see any windows stuff. I also created a hidden button that runs task manager so that I can do any windows things needed including changing the registry back.

This allows all windows functionality (anti-virus, usb, programs, etc) while making it look more factory. (I even changed the bios logo to a bmw logo and text saying "loading...") You gotta love this forum and all the cool info on it....

I run RR as shell and have no problems at all with any USB devices. The explorer GUI has nothing do with the actual processes that control the hardware and let the PC run.

Also I've noticed that when explorer is not shell anymore the "startup" folder in the system root does not work anymore. When you put shortcuts or whatever in there they won't start like they do when you are running explorer.
