RR GPS Commands - Do I need mapmonkey installed?

Appologies in advance, this may seem a stupid question, but the FAQ doesn't seem clear to me on this point, and map monkey isn't installing correctly for some reason so I can't test it myself.

Anyway, Do I need to install mapmonkey to make use of the RR commands
    GPSSPD and GPSALT etc?

I use "seaclear" with the ordinance survey maps to display my GPS position,
but want to display the GPS speed in a BIG font on the same screen.
I have xport so can kick off multiple instances of the GPS port, but
I don't know how to specify a COM port for RR to use (apart from the one for mapmonkey). So, do I install mapmonkey and these commands suddenly work? or is there something else I need to do?

    Thanks,

    /Markie

    port setting

you can set a virtual port made by xport in the rrconfig ,in gps towards the bottom, where it says gps port just enter the com port there .

the labels should work with out mapmonkey as long as you set the com in rr.

That just reverts to zero all the time, and doesn't seem to change anything in RR.INI file.

I guess the question is "Edit it to what?"
What is the setting that I need to include in RR.INI?

"mappointport" gets set if I check GPSmode as "mappoint" or "Menu" in rrconfig.exe - do I then need to install mappoint?

All port references disappear from RR.ini if I check "mapmonkey" or "External" in GPSmode

Setting "mappointport" to my port number doesn't seem to have any affect however, the GPSSPD command still returns nothing.

Recommended: just open rr.ini on any text editor and set gpspor=<PORT> -- you could set it to mappoint without mappoint installed, it won't hurt anything even if you don't have it installed (As long as you don't try to use mappoint).
