In that case, keep the HD Radio as is, and use the ANT as a pass-through. Use the LPT port or something else to trigger when the antenna should be up.

You could put a diode on the output of the normal headunit's power antenna signal and connect that to the wire which extends the car antenna. You would also need a signal of some kind from the HD Radio itself to know when its on. lemme think about it and get back to you. its late here.

EDIT> do you want to listen to HD radio (via rf modulation) on the head unit when the PC is off?

There's a pin at the DIN connector that is actually called PW_ENABLE, and it goes LOW when the unit is on, high when the unit is off. You could use that signal to ground a relay which provides the +12 to your antenna. That way the antenna goes up and down with the unit's power.

Nope. I will only use the HD Radio when using the CarPC. The stock headunit will only be used by itself and not with the HD Radio.

Thanks Colin for the idea. I wonder if this pin is populated in Mitch's cable. If so, that could be wired up easily enough.

I believe Mitch's cable actually sets the pin to high or low. If you take a peek at the cable or the code, he uses the DTR line I believe to drive it. A quick little hack to a single wire and you could no-doubt run a relay directly off it since it's already connected to a transistor and is not being fed by the serial port, but rather a 5v line on the HD unit itself.

yep.. hmm... a good idea... it goes LOW when ON
the transistor, could sink 100ma... so a small relay could be done

    mitch
    -Thanks

    wish I knew that earlier

Mitch> possibility to make your cables up with an antenna 'trigger' wire (tapped off that line)? Ive got my cable already, so its purely a future feature idea.

antenna trigger is 12V positive, i dont got that there... it would have to be basicly open collector, you would have to supply relay...

yes, I realise that. I meant just having a single wire that the 'enthusiast' can use to stimulate the open collector.
