Are you willing to take apart your Mitch cable? It's a pretty simple hack if you've got a soldering iron and a small relay...

I just got this cable...and spent a long time waiting for it to arrive...but sure. I will.

Are you agreeing a relay that draws 100ma or less is OK? If so, I will find one to use.

I am ready, willing and able to do this mod. Any more details on how to? ...and what is the max draw for the relay?

Basically, you're just going to use a relay with less than say 90mA current draw (55 ohm coil or so) and hook it up to the output of the transistor in the circuit. The output is the side that is connected to the resistor (a pullup).

So, output of transistor goes to the ground of the relay coil.
The positive of the relay coil goes to the OTHER side of the resistor mentioned before. This is a +5 line.

When Mitch's software enables the radio, it pulls the line low and therefore grounds the relay, making it turn on. When he disables the radio, it leaves the line open, and the pullup resistor causes the line to go positive, which would disable the coil and click the relay off...

    OK, something like this:

The things in grey are in Mitch's cable already. I don't know if the transistor is a pnp or npn...but that doesn't really matter for the pic. I am coming off the emitter...right?

Let me know if this doesn't look right.

EDIT: I know I left the pull-up resistor hanging...it's for display purposes only.

Well, you'd probably want to use the +5v that's on the other side of that resistor instead.
There's not really a +12v easily available, believe it or not.
Your orientation of the transistor is wrong too, but you've got the idea.

Ill draw one out in a second.

meisier, you're pcboard might look differnt, but the 2 lower right points are the same...

u still need 12v on the COMMON of the relay
    then NO goes to antenna...
and dont forget the diode across the relay, or maybe something get spiked!

maybe a omron G5A-234P-DC5, the G6L are cool! tiny suckers...

its not as clean as one would wish

the big quesion, is maybe the extra pin on the 4 pin molex could be pwr antenna
not sure what that used pin is doing... could look
    -Thanks
