New to RoadRunner - I missed the initial boat

So when i first started my carpc endeavor almost 5 years ago I fought and fought not to have to use a front end and just use winamp/wmp/windvd etc. well I have finally decided that I am an idiot and want to use a front end. I downloaded the roadrunner and have been messing around with it a bit, but i am still a little lost on some things. I searched the forum for a how-to, initial setup, etc. but have not found a step by step example, or one dumbed down enough for me to figure out. Is there one out there and I am missing it? Or is this another go figure it out by trial and error? Any help would be appreciated...

    Steps:
    1. DL and install using the installer
    2. DL and install Winamp v2.95 or 5.13
    3. DL the newest config (see sig)
    4. Set the winamp, Music, skin and launch paths in the config.
    5. And enjoy the newly found way of doing things..

PS... You make the right choice, and picked the best front end!

Okay 1-3 I am good on and accomplished...

4 is where things get hairy. I am using the default skin that comes with, and I do not know what the buttons mean. Is there a setting that will put help pop ups on there?

    What is the INI Path?

    What is the Launch Path?

Why is it when I add music it won't play and has 00:00 as the time of the song?

Just a few of my stupid initial questions...

you'll find this on your desktop RRconfig, it should of installed it there when you loaded RR, just double click it and there is the settings Blue is talking about, you have to go through each heading on the left and set paths to your apps like . under General /player setup (on the left) set path for winamp (on the right)

I have downloaded his config and have done all of these things. I added winamp as the music player, but I am still getting 00:00 when I pull up any song in my library.

I know where all of the paths are in the config, I want to know what I am suppose to be putting in these paths...

Go to the Road Runner folder. Open rr.ini

Copy and paste all the entries and let's take a look at what you're lacking.
    Pico-ITX / XP Home with EWF-HORM / RR v12/02/2009 / Winamp v5.13 / RRMedia v1.2.2

set your winamp path to the winamp.exe 's location. set your music path to the directory which contains all of your music. you can figure the rest of the paths out, they arent that hard. anyway,

from there, you open up roadrunner, click on the audio button, then you are going to click on the library button (its on the bottom left somewhere i think). from there, you will find more buttons to help set up a playlist.

roadrunner works as follows: you go to a library screen which contains your full directory of music. different buttons/commands will take what is currently selected in the directory list and perform some function with it (i.e. add the current folder to a playlist, add all the folders, etc.) from here, you will create a playlist on the screen you just came from (before getting to the library). then you can clikc and play your music just like winamp or WMP would work. keep playing with it, you will be amazed with what is possible.

***look into downloading some of the newer skins. they are more advanced, but contain sooooooo many more incredible features. DigitalFX 2.0 is a great skin to start on, very easy to figure out. just download the folder into your /skins path in the road runner folder in program files (assuming youre using windows). also, LSX void is a good skin, and i will be coming out with a new skin in the next couple days (which i like the best :-) )

any more questions, just feel free to ask! i feel like we do a pretty good job to answer people's questions in a friendly manner. good luck!

I went ahead and tried the symplistique skin and that seemed to be more friendly to get around in. I did get some of my mp3s/wmas to play, but others are still not. It seems that when I open up the music player in RR the songs that will play are already cued into my playlist and the ones that won't aren't. Could this have something to do w/ subfolders that I have setup within my music folder?

Also make sure you registered the winamp dll if this has never been done. I think this is needed for the newer version. I am still using the April 2006 version though.
