Roadrunner Master Install Guide for noobs?

    Greetings all!

I just purchased my first touchscreen and itx carputer with all the bells and whistles. I have been following this site for 3 years, and decided that the prices were ripe for me to finally jump in.

In Roadrunner, there are soooo many plugins and addins and options and cupholders available. With carputing becoming more and more streamline, would anyone be willing to make a Master Thread for Software Implementation? It would be nice to have everything possible listed in one thread and made into a sticky. The thread would be dedicated to Roadrunner, and possibly have referrences and links to other threads as the options for the software are listed. There should be a "Hardware required" subsection for every option listed. There might also be a short guide as to how to use this section of the software, and how to configure it.

Ex. Voice control is built into roadrunner. You will find it here (screenshot) This particular usb microphone is top notch (link), but this one can also be used and is popular (link) Here is a list of commonly used commands (list or link), you can add commands by doing this and that.

Ex. Mobile phone integration (voice) is built into or supported in roadrunner. You will find it here (screenshot) You can use the same mic as listed in the Voice control section (Section 1a) Here is how you use it. It requires this hardware (links and requirements) It must be set up this way to work properly (explanation) You can modify your phone book this way, import sim contacts that way, yada yada yada

I know this would be a time consuming type of thread, but im sure that it would be the most viewed thread on this site after a few months. I would be willing to make a donation for the time spent in creating this thread. I believe thoroughness would be the key to the success of this thread.

Obviously a Hardware Implementation guide would have to be very vague and I think not as necessary, as each install is different. The software which inhabits it, is all the same though .

I have not come across anything that resembles what I have made an attempt at asking for here, and if there is such a thread, i apologize for wasting your time.

    Anyone up to the task?

    Thanks,

    Rock

As I am sure that you have been through the FAQ section as I have, it is hardly a guide, as it is mostly for frequently asked questions. As you can go in and look in the FAQ as i'm sure you did before replying to my post, you would have seen that the FAQ is not as up to date as the software itself, along with plugins and newly available hardware that is supported in it. Regardless, a software that has reached as far as this one has, should have some sort of guide don't you think?

There is an included help file in the install that helps with the initial setup of RR. There are also dedicated threads for implementation of different features and their requirements.

Because of RR's flexibility and on-going contributions by it's users, trying to keep a n00b guide for RR's available features up-to-date might prove to be a daunting task.

In all honesty, this forum has all the info a n00b needs to get RR up and running and beyond. Just gotta roll up the sleeves a bit and do some research, which is also good for a n00b, as far as forum ettiquette goes.

wouldn't your guide eventually need updating after new features come forward same as the FAQS I was able to learn most of this stuff just by reading the FAQS, searching, and posting if I was unable to find an answer. It just takes times and patience, and no matter what you do...some people will not even bother to read anything and just blow up a thread with questions.

not shooting down your idea though, this would be great for newcomers.
maybe YOU can do this...all you would have to do is read through all these threads and posts, and note every single feature RR & each RR skin offers....just what almost anyone here would have to do (probably not too many people here know everything by heart....well maybe 2 or 3)..

the way I look at it we already have a master guide that is updated everyday......that's the RoadRunner thread...like I said, you have to put in the time to read it.

Well if i knew everything, I would write it up no questions asked Unfortunatly I am just diving into this, so my knowlege is limited. Is there a character limit per post? This could take months if I plan to do it...
