    Music in roadrunner

First off, I have read through many FAQs and threads, but I still can't quite figure out the how to get music in roadrunner properly. The skin I am using is DigitalFX 3.0. I downloaded winamp, installed roadrunner, then installed the skin. Also In the rrconfig program I pointed the music player to my winamp folder.
But when I run roadrunner and go to the browser part of music, half the time nothing shows up. On rare occasions the browser will work, and artist, album, and genre are displayed. When the browser does work I still have alot of weird problems with it:

    1. Not all my music shows up even though it works perfectly in winamp. random albums or artists just arent there.

2.when I browse some artists, it doesn't split the songs under the artist into their respective albums, but in winamp the albums are displayed.

    3. some tracks use just the mp3 file name instead of the id3 tag info. which doesn't make sense since all songs work perfect in winamp and I converted the tags all to id3v2.3 and they are all mp3s.

    4. updir button in digitalfx always goes back to the root of the directory.

    5. under artists the view all albums button is randomly placed within the album listings, sometimes it is at the top, sometimes not what's with this?

It doesn't make sense that all my music works perfect in winamp but doen't work in roadrunner. How do I fix this? Is there other settings I have to change, or files in roadrunner that need to be edited? Is there a walkthrough for setting up music in roadrunner? I'm really new at this and its confusing me, sorry if I'm asking too much.

Wow, a lot of strange issues for sure. For the DigitalFX skin, winamp 5.13 is recommended. NOT the latest version, but 5.13. Check oldversions.com to get that version of winamp.

Make sure you have registered the Winamp.dll file in the root road runner folder. This is what tells RR that you want to use Winamp for the media player inside RR.

Try those 2 things and see if things improve, if not post back, and I am sure we can dig deeper to see what the problem might be.

RR and Winamp Library plugin handle things differently.

RR uses a directory list when you're in the "browser" menu. So, in short, your folder structure in your defined musicpath is how it'll be displayed in RR. If you have the Winamp Media Library plugin installed, the "Artist," "Album," & "Genre" categories will show up in the browser and that is will be based on your ID3 tags.

If nothing is showing up in your browser, make sure you have at least DirectX 7 installed. DFX3.0 uses iLists.

If filenames are showing up instead of ID3 tag data, open up the config, go to Music-Page 1 and unclick "Lazy ID3 Load" & select "Prefer ID3v2 Tags" in the drop down menu.

I am not using the defined music path with folders, I am using the media library plugin of winamp. Whats odd is in the media library of winamp displays all the artists/albums/songs perfectly, but in roadrunner the browser messes up.

Like John said, install either winamp v2.95 or v5.13 using only the classic skin.

Make sure you set your ID3 tag prefs in RR Config and restart RR.

If you can, post a screen cap so we can see what's going on...

ok i am using winamp 5.13 and the browser shows up but I am still having the same problems I described in the first post. I told it to prefer id3v2 in the rrconfig program, but it still gives the file name for some songs. Any ideas?

Can you have someone else with RR try one of the songs in question? To eliminate the possibility that the song itself is causing a problem.

Also, if you have set the winamp prefs to have metadata to read on load, you'll have to format the display there, as well.

If RR still has problems reading ID3 tags, might have to DL a ID3 tagging program and start playing w/ the tags.

My problems must be with my music files, because on another computer it does the same damn thing.

I am using a program called ID3-TagIt and EVERY song is an mp3 with id3v2.3 tags, but some also have version 1 id3 tags in addition to version 2.3 (I didnt even know that was possible to have two tag types on one file). My question is how do I delete JUST the v1 tags off the mp3 file? also in rrconfig, if i tell it to prefer id3 version 1 tags, some of the songs that were screwed up will display all the id3 tag info in rr, but then others that worked before don't work If I do this.

This is really frustrating because all the mp3s have id3v2.3 tags and work perfect in winamp. I am still having problems with some albums not even showing up in rr. I will post screen shots soon to show you what problems I'm having.
