You guys are pretty lucky as you've got all sorts to choose from, but here in lil old New Zealand there's not many choices when it comes to PC based satnav so I'm happy with Garmin Mobile PC for now. At least with it being a software based product, as things improve I can get the new versions, up till now there's been no real retail product available as far as I'm aware.

Thanks to everyone who's helping integrate this app as it's really going to make a difference to people like me.

let me know if anybody is interested in this...

i want garmin to become frontmost window (skin) if i am approaching a speedcam (or any other poi).

saying that i have to mention that garmin has the best approaching algorithm for speedcams. not only considering how close and what angle you are approaching. it is kind of smart, checking if you are on that road the speedcam is placed. this prevents it from a lot of false-posivites on crossroads, highway-intermediates etc. till now it was always 100% accurate and that is key of such a warning feature. remember murphy. the more false positives you get, less attention you are paying to it. and it will just happend when you don't count on it...

so what options do i have to implement this
    a) compare images with warning message in garmin. okay works with autoit. problem is that you can only do scans on visible things. but i want it especially then when garmin is in background...
    b) check for memory address where garmin puts the message

so i followed up option b) using cheatengine.org to find the pointer to the pointer to the memory address and auto-it to monitor changes in memory to provide visual notification (not done yet but thinking of automatically switching to gps screen or setting a scrolling label).

this approach is very cpu-friendly (compared to image comparison) and only needs auto-it.

any suggestions appreciated since this is going to be my first contribution to road runner community. i try to build a package which can be customized for different languages and search criteria. this could also be used for other navi stuff

I had the same problem at first because I didn't select the checkbox for "Prolific to Serial Com" in the list at the bottom (I have a BU353). After I did that (and updated my drivers to the 2007 version), the Garmin app detected ALL the ports (4) that I had defined in XPort < 10.

    Hope that helps.

not sure if anyone has seen this but you can create custom vehicles in Garmin Mobile PC. just have to create your own .srf files

this guys explains the process and created a tool to assit.

    http://www.gpspassion.com/FORUMSEN/t...25&whichpage=1

basically it entails sets of 36 images (.png) around the car to create a 3d image out of (the .srf file)

no easy task but matchbox/model cars should make it easier.

    Unhappy No Guages

BamBam I have the garmin 20x and while garmin now works guages do not. I have opened the rr.ini and set the port to one I added but nothing. Am I stuck with JUST garmin or am I missing something? I am using verison 1.2.3.0 of Xport but, I don't see "Prolific to Serial Com" in xport? Or is it someplace else?

Could you SPOON FEED me your setting, NST6563 did and I got this far.

Your GPS receivers is on a port, let's say port1; you split port 1 with xport into 2, let's say port2 and port3; then you assign port2 to Garmin and assign port3 to roadrunner - have you done that?

One thing you'll have to do, and it maybe sounds like you didn't but who knows...always start with the simplest things right?

Find out what port your 20x is on.
Now, in Xport, in the top left box to select the port to replicate...select the port your 20x is on. in the right, select a baud rate. Check your specs for this, mine is 38,400 or 57,600.

Now, below that you'll see the two columns of ports you can select. In the left column of drop-downs, select some ports to add. RR will use any port you give it. Garmin ALWAYS picks the first available port which is spewing GPS data.

After you select the ports, then tick the radio button to Activate/Use the ports. This is what allows the other programs to feed off the data streams being sent to those virtual ports.

I'd take some screenshots and whatnot but I have to get to a baseball game.
