Ok. dual screens 1 controls the other w/ multiple instances.

Here's what Im wanting to do, any help would be appreciated.

Dual screens...
One up front that is a touchscreen, one in the back thats just a display.
I have 2 soundcards one to the cars speakers, the other to a set of speakers by the rear display.

I know I can run 2 instances of roadrunner, and I can set up Mediaplayer Classic to use the second soundcard while winamp is playing on the 1st, tested and works.

I know I should be able to have two instances of MPC as long as they are running in different directories, so I can play videos up front, on one soundcard, and another on the back screen using a different sound card ( I need to test that)

But.. how do I control the second instance of roadrunner, on the second screen from the other instance? Basically I want to be able to open the videos up front, have them playing on the back, but still be able to open and watch a different on the front one.

Also, any way to have a skin, on a second instance, be just a video player (to reduce memory footprint)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Update, if MPC is running in a different directory, I can run 2 instances. You just have to rename MPC.ini to mplayerc.ini, in the settings set the output to the other soundcard, close, then rename to mpc.ini again.

In RRconfig I set the start command to VIDEO, and on the second instance, it went immediatley to the video screen. I can just delete all the other parts of the skin I dont need.

Now I just need to find out how to control the second instance of RR's MPC from the 1st instance/screen.

all i can suggest is some more searching, a reading of skin commands.txt, and possible messing around with EXEC.exe. you can send commands to EXEC.exe and RR will execute them. now which one will be controlled, or if different 'EXEC.exe' 's control different RR's, i do not know.... i looked into somethin like this before too

Does not the second roadrunner have a different window title, if so try sendmessage to the window title.

Well, seems I cant get it to do what I need to do...

so I will ask this. When your playing a video... and you press BACK or MENU to get to the main menu, it stops the video. Can this be disabled? That way I can just have the video overlay set to the external monitor, turn it on, and then go back and its still playing on the second monitor.

Not sure if this is what your after but its exactly why I created my rrvlc plugin.

I have freedom ultimate running in the front with my rrvlc running on the back two monitors. I have made a version of ultimate that allows me to control the video and its playlist from the front without stopping the music in the front. If you want help with using it in any specific skin I can help there.

can RRVLC have sound output to a different soundcard? I know with MPC, you can, its ini file, specify a particular soundcard.

Basically, Im putting a headrest monitor in my backseat for my child. I'll use a sepaprate soundcard for its audio, to speakers mounted on his carseat. The rest of the audio will go through the second soundcard.
