Werner boasts being one of the few trucking companies that runs paperless (computer based) logs. I'm not sure if they use a proprietary machine or if it's run off laptops or whatever, but as a former trucker, I know the the hassle of using paper logs. It's really cumbersome and easy to screw up, and whenever trucks go to these weigh stations, they have to present their log books if they get a red X to pull over. At that point, the DOT inspector checks their log book(s) for DOT compliance and they do have the discretion to ticket you if your log book is hard to read or is full of mistakes. I especially know the convenience of using a paperless log system since the company I worked for (King Provision) used them. You can print out paper versions of the computer logs that resemble a log book if DOT officers want to see them.
I thought this might be something useful for truck drivers, especially owner operators.
