i don't think the issue is peoples fear on RR going commercial.

most people would just like to see a fully patched "official" version that fixes the bugs - like weather, indicators etc.. such an "official" patch would set a lot of peoples mind at easy ... but having said that, I do appreciate Guino has other priorities, as do most of us on these forums ...

lol yes I just want one copy of the RR Binary out there, I like weather and I like your Sirius enhancements but as of now I can not have both because they are two seperate binaries!

But I get the feeling that now Guino has the info he will merge everything together and get a updated build out

Mitch sent me his changes today.. as soon as I have a little time Ill get that in. Ill take a look about the plugin issues, Im not sure if I can do much about old plugins which didnt do the appropriate coding on the indicators function, I know we can fix it for newer plugins and anything that we could at least recompile.

As far as internet and external plugins, if I knew what I know now about the nature of this type of software, RR would only be a "skin engine" with a plugin SDK and we would be only building new plugins or changing the existing ones. Most of everything can be a plugin, and this would allow for loading only what is needed by each user.

I personally have never really done much with the GAS plugin, so Im unsure of what I could do to fix it, but I can try...

As I don't seem to recall, what exactly is the correct indicator function/sub syntax now? ie.. what should be the default return value if nothing has changed: "False,True,Nothing"?

Thank you again!, Guino for the continued support and the willingness to help get us all back on the same page in mist of all your busyness.

What a relief to see GUINO chime in here.
I totally agree on this future additions need to be plugins idea. Keeping so much native seemed to be what is truly holding RR back from just stomping the rest of the front ends down in the ground. Allthough it kept features together and commands from colliding but at the same time updates to those features or fixes makes it pretty hard. Case in point weather and gas. ALl though both are fixed now, weather is still native.
I think once the core code of RR is solid, it should be left alone and any major additions should be left to a select group of people who share similar interests and experience with the code. It was great with guino at the helm but even he got overwhelmed at times. Such a huge project was mastered by guino for years and before him cyote but as time shows the demand for this great masterpiece can take it's toll on the most dedicated members of this community.
I believe RR is the best front end available, maybe not the most stable at times but the support is un matched. Streetdeck the most expensive was a great idea but from lack of support it fell off the deep end. Centrafuse is excellent but the ability to develope it just isnt there. Frodoplayer was very promissing but the community involvement never really happened and when Frodo could no longer contribute everyone that was involved jumped ship.
So that leaves us with RR, not the last resort but the only option if you want something totally free with a lifetime support channel that is truly 24/7/365. Where else in these forums can you post a question and get an answer normally faster than if you were to google it. Truly the reason most people reply GOOGLE to a lot of posts. Kind of the double edged sword of a great community.
Thanks to all for making this project what it is today and for the dedication to keep it this way.
So with that said and the assurance from GUINO that RR is remaining free and open source, I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT TOMMORROW BRINGS

I would like to point out a correction in your post ThunderStick...

Such a huge project was mastered by guino for years and before him cyote...
The cyote reference that you are making is to MediaCar (by coyote) which is NOT, was NOT former RoadRunner coding. RoadRunner is its own entity. RR was started from the ground up using MediaCar as a guide along the way until it was passed up, which didn't take that long. I am 99.99999% sure on this as I have stated it before and have yet to be corrected by anyone, but if guino chimes in and says differently then I will have been wrong all these years.

As far as making OSKs specific to garmin or IG or other software, that seems like something that would need more updating than the core RR code it self and couldn't possibly warrant a native option. PLugins are nice cause you can select what you want and get specific instructions on how to use it from the creator. The problems with plugins is that if the creator of the plugin does not want it open source or demands it be downloaded from his website, when he forgets to pay the bill to his host the DL link is gone and so is the plugin.
I think if we are going to create a plugin for an open source project why not have the plugin as open as we want the source for RR to be?
People are afraid of there code being stolen, not getting credit for there work and others profiting off of there work. It's going to happen no matter what.
Guess what MP3CAR profits off of our work everytime you post an idea in these forums. When Nomader found out about transflective screens and how to get them at an "affordable price" MP3CAR snapped that one up quick and low and behold they sell it in the store now and they may even have exclusive rights to it. How many companies do you see with this type of screen. Xenarc isn't doing it yet, Lilliput nope not them either even though it is there screen.
MP3CAR and any major company that monitors this site is inspired by this community in many ways. Microsoft Sync, wow no big new thing to us but to mainstream america this is pretty damn cool. GPS in cars, we as a community have been also doing this for years. It is damn near a common feature in most cars and everyone has hand helds now.
So if you get my point, your ideas are stolen everyday. Your code is nothing that someone else is not able to do with the idea allready provided by you. To try to keep everything as closed as possible only inspires someone else to take that idea and commercialize it anyway.
Not saying to make it easy for the dirt bags to take our ideas or code, but to make it a little better for the community of users who have the intention to develope your code or idea into something that could be better than you have done allready. This is the idea of open source a Community (MP3CAR) comes together to create a project (RR) that can surpass any commercially developed software in terms of features, stability and support.

I remember when cyote left the forums and guino came on. Cyote just kind of fell of the edge of the earth and never came in and said why. Not publicly anyway. Guino, as far as I remember did take over mediacar. Which I believe is the reason that most skins start with a header that says mediacar. It was only recently that the mediacar header was changed to Road Runner. Alot of the old Medicar commands still remain. I give a lot of credit to Guino since he developed Road Runner in to the supergiant that it is today. I dont doubt that he contributed a ton more than cyote. I also dont doubt that RR has changed a lot since the mediacar days. I may be wrong but history shows that RR may have in fact evolved from mediacar and RR may be a whole new version of it. I guess this mystery may never really be answered, who knows elvis may be alive, the sasquatch may roam the forest and the chupcabra maybe more than just a dog with a bad case of mange. But one thing is for CERTAIN... I am a RR adict, which is the whole reason I am up at 10:35 at night and typing in the forums about meaningly rant.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Think about it, "Cyote" the creator of mediacar, "Road Runner" the software name... HMMMM
But the mystery still remains.... IS RR REALLY MEDIACAR....
