Not a very compelling argument On the very front page they are still working on trying to integrate iGuidance 3.0.... since ummmmm 12-28-2006

The latest "news" posting is almost a year old. On the other hand, you will find in the "forums" here that it is much more active, interactive and pretty much up to date.

Not having a release of Road Runner in a mere 5 months in NOT the end of the world people There have been around 6 RR releases in the past year, the last just a few months ago..... and ..... well there could be another one here soon Patience.......

I didn't say anything about mediaengine's status. That wasn't the point. I was saying that if you want a way to "tie all the loose ends together", you need a solid webpage design. We have that. What does "when we worked on iGuidance last" have anything to do with RR having a good website?

Also for the forums, you have to come in here and pretty much search your brains out to even figure out what is what with RR. That needs to change. I am speaking as an outsider, and some people don't want to become part of a community just to be able to figure out a piece of software.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers

What does "when we worked on iGuidance last" have anything to do with RR having a good website?" just shows, that It just shows that even with the best of intentions, web sites can get out of date really fast when it is a community effort project. I would be willing to bet that iGuidance 3.0 was implemented in MediaEngine, and probably even 3.1, and 4.0 by the users. That fact is not updated on the site however.

I can think of multiple times where people have made sites to try to organize the downloads, skins, features, help files and on and on. It usually works for a short period, and all it takes is the person in charge of the site to lose interest, or to get busy with other things.

With as fast as the software evolves, plugins are added, bugs are fixed, new skins are released and such, it would be a full time job to try to keep a site up to date.

If you look at most open source projects, at the heart of it is a forum. If this were a commercial project, ran by a company, that could be a different story all together.

I part agree with CarComp in that a central website would be useful, and in the past we have had many attempts

trouble is, sometimes the owner 'forgets' to renew the domain.

    Gobbys site(s) as an example.

Now obviously that could be to many reasons so a site needs to be available that is not dependant on one person to stay up (financially and remembering wise)

However I have no solution to offer.

Would a "wiki" style site help? Could we even maybe get a spot in the mp3car.com wiki?

I can write a site where there are "X" amount of admins that can login and add news, add uploads etc. I login right there on the main page and the menu changes to what is there plus "Admin Menu". I can click that and change just about any part of the site. Its custom made, so I know how it all works and can replicate something similar easily. MediaEngine.org served mediaengine for almost 8 years now and its just recently (last couple years) getting really out of date, but if you look at the site traffic, it still gets a lot of hits and downloads regularly because of its "centralness".

I'm just saying I'm offering to make a site like this for RR. Just please someone else manage it. And someone please let me know what you want.

Not that this was hard to do, but I gave roadrunner it's own wiki page and linked it to the software section above. http://www.mp3car.com/wiki/index.php/RoadRunner

In addition, we could also consider doing some type of hosting, sub domain or directory if a good plan starts to take shape.

Its still just a wiki though. What RR needs is something hosted that just has a system for piecing together a working RR system as well as links to this forum, and perhaps a wiki / faq. With the wiki, all you end up with is an extremely complex definition of what something is.

Like I said, i'd be willing to make the site, if someone would host it and tell me who's gonna be in charge of keeping it updated. (And all that requires is a browser. No html coding) I'd need php access.

As a newbie, what I think is required is good documentation that covers off on everything that you need to do one step at a time. eg.
    1. How to install (link to most recent install)
    2. How to get updates (link to most recent updates)
    3. How to get CD RIP going blow by blow, still not there yet
    4. How to get Video player support working
    5. How to get radio going (link to most recent DLL's, I'm using one I found on the FreeIce forum which fixed all my problems)
    5. How to get DVD player support working
    6. Using Xport
    .....

I spent quite a few nights where I would come home and say well tonight I am going to get this function working and it would take ages to research how to do this. Some were really simple, just changing a switch in RR.ini.

Finally good documentation of Skin commands laid out like a good programming language manual format with headings like:
    Command, Syntax, Description, Examples
