I've never in my day seen such hornswaggling over FREE software :)
Different people with different ideas and needs.
Why all of a sudden do i have to install .net?
Its not part of my install nor do i want it to be,see this is the problem with RR right now.
I'm in the uk and don't need sirius hd or xm,i think i speak for quite a few who just wanted the newly added bugs fixed but now there is a requirment to add more bloat which is used by what exactly?
EDIT:Pointless Rant as i've just read that there is a non dependent on its way,my calm is restored.
I agree with valheru and enforcer, RR source should be as clean and stable as possible, and any extras should be in the form of plugins. This is what guino was talking about in the "year later, where are we?" thread.
I have a seperate head unit, with XM, and (never used) AM/FM, so having that in the CarPC is not important to me. However, registering some .dll's is not a big deal to me either.
I have the bare minimum coding experience, and definitely appreciate the progress, but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears. I have the may 08 weather fixed beta, and no problems, other than plugins not playing nicely. This update doesn't seem worth it just to fix something that's not a huge PITA to me.
Also, I have a problem with having someone develop software for something they don't even use. I know the Digital radio world here would be lost without these changes, but you can't fully understand what is important unless you use it. It's like working for one cell phone company, selling their products, but using a competitor. You're just not that invested in the software (you could sell your radio interfaces to anyone wanting them, rather than just to RR users.)
I love RR, since the first time I tried it, and the other FE's, it was the best, and had the best potential. It still does, and I am excited about what might come in the future with it, but the fact remains; RR is due for a pretty big refresh. Get rid of unnecessary code, slim it down, clean it up.
Having dependencies on something that is not global, and that I'd be willing to bet the majority of users don't use is just plain ridiculous. Isn't this how the weather and gas prices broke? It was in the source code, and couldn't be fixed without the source being updated. What happens when XM and Sirius merge into one company and have new hardware, and possibly new software, etc?
In order to take a step forward, we need to look where we are going, taking a step forward off a cliff is not a good idea. (We might be a few steps away from that too.)
I understand where people comming from. I have a HD Radio in my car wired the way it should be. 12V---Ground----ACC. If I start RR the radio works just fine, after puting the PC into StandBy and wake up again, no radio, even the radio is powered. At my desktop, I don't have a radio installed, now every time I start RR i Get that window that tells me HD Radio not found, Check connection. So now that is frustrating for people they don't have HD or XM and there is no OPTION to turn it of. If I select HQCT as radio, it still tells me that it can't find a HD Radio. There need to be an option to turn this off.
MGD, there is...
why doesnt anyone READ
hdradioport=0
setting any of the radios to 0, effectly disables ther use, and access
or H
ok so amongst all this banter did I miss something about the sliders not working with this release or indicators.. Or does John have to make some updates to his DFX4.0 skin.
With this release the weather is working again.. but my slider bar for music does not work and I am still missing the GPS indicator in John's DFX4 skin.. is this related to plugins that need to be updated?
Normally, this would be correct. However, since RR "communicates" with the HD box to let RR know what it's status is, it needs to be on when the computer is on. If you turn your key off, the box turns off before the computer gets the signal to go into hibernation/standby, so RR no longer knows what the status of the box is...
enforcer you are SO wrong, its best you keep mouth shut on why i got involved
it has NOTHING to DO with RoadRunner...
XM and sirius and HD were all working before i got involved
i tryied it for my self, and said this SUCKs, the performance is horrid
why the f would anyone use a carpc!
and thats where my involvement began
and i dont want to hear anyone complaing about .net
as of now .net is the present/future, everything is or will be .net based
unless ur going to stop using windows... live with it
i think its the best thing since sliced bread, for a programmer!
Dont mention JAVA, java is basic .net
has a huge framework too
but this isnt a .net issue
