Digital photo frame with a carPC front end?

    Hi Guys....

I'm thinking of using one of the front ends on a diy digital photo frame (DPF), just wondering if anyone here ever done anything similar. As it would seem ideal, with the simple user interface....

lolo, one year later I had the same idea...

Is this possible? Or is the frame just too simple to deal with a pc?

If you already have the PC sitting by the desired photo-frame location, then should be simple enough to do it - but I would assume you'd just be buying a second screen to extend your current one, that way you can use the machine while your photos display. Otherwise, the idea of using an entire PC just for a photo-frame is not only wasteful and expensive but probably creates a lot more problems than you'd need just to display pictures. Using it for other functions is the only way I would justify using a PC for it.

    dpf

I would think this would be possible. I made a dpf out of a old laptop that is running XP, i have it set up to auto start a slide show when powered up. You could just have it auto start the front end when booted up, the only thing would be is you would have to have a mouse connected to navigate the buttons on the front end or have a wireless network card in it to remote in from a desktop. This should work no problem it all depends on what you use as far as the base pc and how you want to control it.

I think I got your question all wrong.. I thought you wanted to use a carpc front end to display pictures on a photoframe display. You can most definitely use any lower-quality/cheap monitor with any carpc software, however, the fonts may look very fuzzy and the details may be very poor. This however will highly depend on the size of the fonts and objects on the skin used. I would never suggest it, but if that's all you could use, I guess it's better than nothing.
