    RR Built-in Gamma Question

    I don't mean to

    But...

I am looking to see if anyone has their gamma settings working for them.

Mine works great, but it never fails that if the carpc shuts down at night while in night gamma mode and if you turn it back on that same night.. it will be in daytime gamma mode. I have tried this over and over and can't seem to figure out why it won't save or otherwise switch to night mode (when the previous shutdown was in night mode).

That was kinda wordy, but I hope it made sense. I'm using DFX4 as my skin... and one thing I have found is that when having the issue if I go (in DFX) to "Settings" and then the Gamma settings page, if I click the Daytime Gamma button it will wait a second and flip to night mode... as if i am forcing it to check the time.

When my carpc boots, it is returning from a hibernate state.

Does anyone have this working correctly? Help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

So, are you using time based gamma or GPS time based gamma?

I'm using the system time based, not gps time based.

Edit: I never have tried using the GPS time based gamma settings... does this work better?

Depends on how long it takes your GPS receiver to lock on. I believe it defaults to night mode until lock on since the receiver will return 00:00.

ill have to try that... my receiver is almost always locked on by the time road runner is back up.

its funny because if im driving during the day, turn off the car, and return at night... it works perfectly... starts up with gamma in night mode. but for some reason it can never go from night --> night. weirding me out...

ill try the gps time controlled version for a while and see if that doesnt resolve my troubles.

    will report back, thanks! :-p

I actually posted here last night excited because I thought I had finally fixed this issue... only to be proven wrong and I had to delete the post :-(

However, I really did figure out what was going on and I have a fix for it...

The problem lies in the fact that my video card (Unichrome Pro IGP) has its own display configuration tools that come with the driver. One of the components is a gamma tool. This tool saves its settings as defaults, and what I found was that at system boot/shutdown it would always load this default (even after I disabled every driver-related startup item).

So at night... RR would shift to night mode but when it would hibernate, I could see that it would shift back to normal brightness just before the system would go down. And if I brought the system back up, it would remain in this normal mode until I pushed the "Day Gamma" or "Night Gamma" buttons which would make RR force the gamma back to what it was supposed to be. This was the problem and, inherently, the solution.

What I did to fix it was just add a line to my exectbl such that the "DayGamma" command was run every time RR would come back from resume/hibernate. So, simply "OnResume","DayGamma"

    Bingo!

This has worked flawlessly now... and I wasn't able to find any other way to fix this... it's just a crappy video card issue.

I'd be curious if anyone else has had this issue.

BTW, i just formatted, and tried multiple versions of drivers, all with the same results.

    Oh well, what works WORKS!

    Thanks again for everyone's help
