lol you guys just KILL me here. No one HAS to use the installer, no one HAS to use a build thats been released sense 10/2007. Mitch is here doing nothing to making HUGE contributions to the software we all use and love, and yet with each step in a positive direction he makes he gets more and more criticism. First it was the .net issue, which hey if you dont want to install .net on your computer more power to you, but its an ancient compiler that gives us developers FITS in performing the most basic of functions. So mitch went back and re-wrote weeks or working code for compatibility concerns. Next he creates a WORKING and SUPPORTED RR installer to make it EASIER for new comers to actually use RR... and now there's MORE criticism about which skin he chose to install. BMV2 is outdated, unsupported and bloated... carwings is quite the opposite. There is a VERY small percentage of people that use bmv2. What real difference does it make which skin is included in the installer? If you want to use bmv2 download it like any other skin. I understand some people are just reluctant to change regardless of if its good or bad, but its to the point here where its just impossible to make improvements without complaints. Why cant people acknowledge that "old" RR is no more and we're lucky to have anything new at all at this point. He didn't remove bmv2 to dictate how you use RR he removed it because it basically doubled the size of the installer.. and for basically no reason. Many people enjoy what mitch is doing for RR, and he's backed by Guino obviously so what exactly is the big deal with change?

hey mitch i dont know how i didnt notice this in the testing of the installer, but could you add a "plugins" folder inside of RR root so that there's a single dedicated spot for plugins to be installed/registered from. I'll be on MSN in a bit if u need more info

I did debate BMV2 for the longest time, i had it in, up until the last minute when the installer size was 32mb, i removed it. giving us 17mbish installer.
and I am always open to suggestion, but with logic. If I could get carwings working, which is a simple skin (i dont think there is transparency in it) anyone can. It has both XM and Sirius in it which allows me to help debug with anyone from a COMMON skin.

blue, I only deleted a way off topic post.

Anyone could have got involved, how?

I seem to recall Blue (I think) mentioning that Sonic and yourself had been working on a new installer and were about to release it.

Now, there was no thread about a new installer inviting people to voice their ideas, requirements and what they thought would be good in an installer.

I think the main thing you have jumped on again is your Sirrus and XM 'for testing'. How hard would it be to make XM and Sirrus skins for BMV2?

One of my main concerns with Carwings is the curve menu can make it difficult to skin for unless you use the AutoIT script that is used with the GPS. Now to use it for your own plugin skins it would have to be modified which makes it more difficult for Plugin developers. (see now we are going onto something that affects me).

Speaking of the GPS thing, because it uses that AutoIT script for that GPS, using anyother GPS program is going to be harder than another skin.

You've read the the Plugins standardisation thread, and even made a '*yawn' comment in the discussion thread, now seeing as I had recommended everyone use the BMV2 skin as a reference/default skin when developing/releasing their plugin, seeing as it was the 'defualt' RR skin, it would have been nice to have been consulted, but no you just went with what ever you wanted.

And Mitch, I have to agree with Valheru about your arrogance, the way you respond to people who ask questions about something that is not working for them, it's a kind of 'well it works for me, if it doesn't work for you, you must be stupid' response, all though you don't say it in exactly those words.

sonic ... to be honest here, I have no problem with what Mitch adds to the installer, nor dare I say does anyone - he built it, he can add what he likes to it, the point I was making is that what used to be an open forum now all of a sudden seems to be a dictatorship ... which is NOT what being part of these forums is all about ...

This is the point I was making ... but you know what Sonic/Mitch, if i'm the only one with concerns - or the only one going to voice those concerns - about this project I might as well just call it quits.

pretty sure what he meant is anyone since the creation of RR binaries could have taken the time to create an installer. Its not something that should have taken this long to do

it may seem that way and i can understand that view, but honestly its not. There are still RR binaries out there (albeit from 10/07 or maybe 05/08) that you can download and use the same way as always. If not for the fact that there will no longer be RR source code available things would probably be the same way they have been for the last 4+ years. But things are they way they are, one person controls RR's builds now, and despite what it may seem its NOT mitch.

and i understand what you mean by open forum. Mitch has a personality about him lol. I too used to find it a little on the salty side, but in the end he does want what we all want and thats progress (i'd put 10 bucks on him adding BMV to the installer in the end lol )

Well that's not the way it came across.

But I still say there should have been some discussion on the subject, not just 'here it is, like it or lump it'.

BMV2 has Sirius and XM skins already. It does require a menu edit to switch from the default XM to Sirius skin though.

This is non-issue, blk02si has already released the his psd file for the skin. It's super easy to make new screens. And if I can do it, anyone can.

So then BMV2 can be used as a common skin then.

I know the PSD's are available, they were from early on, in fact I used them to do skins for a couple of my exe's.

However because of the curved menus, some things just don't sit right unless you use the autoit script to allow a floating curved menu above the main screen. This is where the extra difficulty comes in as you would need to do a custom AI script for that screen.

Then don't use them. Easy as that.
