enforcer lets start with this dumb statement

So if we are following proper programming standards, stick the files in the application data directory where it is supposed to go, not an arbitrary chosen folder by you.

how about we store the data in a RANDOMFOLDER
    like
    %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\ewioewikpomdflkmdfoivoufh

    that make sense?

it HAS to be a folder CHOSEN by the programmer, take a look in that dir, you will see lots of specific folders, nothing arbitrary

i said this before... INSTALL VISUAL STUDIO 2008... whats in the user folder "my documents"???
    -Thanks

technically, my documents is for USER saveable files, but i didnt want to split up the locations for rr data, we would need then a IMPORT/EXPORT functionality
and that would take some time to write...
with ALL the user data in ONE directory, its SO easy to backup

at this point, the directory isnt moving, ive gotten quite used to where its at
    -Thanks

I'm cool with that if you are going to put them there, however I see that as confusing 90% of users and skinners.

try reading what I am saying. I have no problem with a new standard of having the data files outside of Program Files.

And try reading what I am saying, we tried to set standards based on the current system at the time, but you ran rough shod over them without consulting us, so now we are waiting for you to come up with some documentations on what the standards should be, because if we do it, it ain't going to mean *****.

I never said random, and I was referring the the My Documents part not the end part (ie the bit which should be the program name).

Interesting that this time you did choose Application Data.

And My Documents is normally reserved for files which the user decides to save from their programs, ie word documents, excel spreadsheets etc, not config or ini files. That's why it's called My Documents and not My Configuration files or Application Data

(Oh looks like you agree with that one now then.)

So, now you agree it's in the wrong place, but you can't be bothered to correct it.

What's the point of standards then.

I must have typed and re-typed a response to the latest ideas 10 times.. but the bottom line is this. We're being told to "futureproof" a program with a timebomb. Anyone see the least bit of irony in that?

i KNOW this idea will confuse 90% of users. Hell i'm confused and i'm a "developer". What is profile mode? Is this something in RR?

90% of RR Users are using XP, 2 years from now.. i'd go as far to say that'll be the same case. Every other agreed upon standardization method improves something. This is just changing something to be prepared for something that will effect < 10% of people using this software. Anyone that has paid attention to RR since November of 07 knows that nothing involved with the application is guaranteed to be there tomorrow. This just seems like a waste of time.

u know, i had it in application data, BUT ANOTHER EXTREAMLY HELPFULL RR USER ACTUALLY contacted me, we talked about it, to move it to "my documents", and i thought about it, and agreed to keep it as simple as possible, and changed the code to put it there

and standards arnt directly tied to right and wrong, WRONG is storing ANY user Writable data in the "program files" folder, that is now done
    -Thanks

sonic, you dont talk to me in MSN anymore
or you prob would be using profile mode

its a alternative mode that the internal filesystem manager can run on
almost NO one is using it... (myself, blue, and maybe a couple others)
its like a really smart feature, that u dont know about
    -Thanks

enforcer, I saw NO such existing standards, every damm plugin has some differnt way of installing it... runme1st, register.bat, and every plugin stored their data local to the plugin... its not perfect, nothing really is, but I'm trying, and BLUEZX3 too... the work we both have put into this in the last few weeks... is just amazin

SO I started this plugin thing, and I developed it, it will go the direction I choose, unless someone takes over on it... it actually hasnt moved in any real direction, as far as installing plugins, but as for data stores, i have added to the SDK to GUIDE the plugin programmer where to store his data

I will take suggestions from anyone, and if anyone wants to get really involved is welcome, im on MSN(windows live) messenger, and one can chat with me at any time

    enforcer,
    take this lightly...
What I am seeing is your NEGITIVE ATTITUDE, i see so many posts by you, that are generally negitive... like a grumpy old man

You saw no existsing standards because you didn't look, we were trying to put some standards in, because there were no standards. We had a thread going with a list of standardisation, then you came and totally ignored it.

Mitch take this lightly, I find almost all your posts and replies to users arrogant and ignorant, usually belittling and talking down to the person asking questions.
