Downloaded the new RR installer...guess what? It runs without any additional downloads, like NET or VBRuntimes. Runs very fast for a pre beta.

Not really, if you look under the hood. As of now, the GUI is just a placeholder. It's only pre bata but stable and freaking fast.

Start menu will change, taskbar will change, explorer is changed already. There is a new POWERBAR build in and so on. We will see in 2010.

Thats about the same time I'll be changing OS's. XP to Win7 with no crap between.

What I have read, read like what MGD said. At its core, it will be very modular, and will be able to run on much slower setups with a breaze.

7 uses the same API's as Vista so if a program runs under Vista it will run on Windows 7. They have also added new API's, so a program could run on 7 but not Vista.

Downloaded and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on Thursday night on some new test hardware laying around, and I gotta say i'm impressed. Even for a beta it's still better than vista, less bloat. Seems very quick and stable from first impressions. Most windows installs are fast upon first install. Its after a few months they start to get slow.

I'm actually considering installing this in Raid 0 on my production machine since i've about had it with vista ultimate.
