RoadRunner, Vista and you (Audio thread)

so.. who is using RoadRunner on vista? (besides me)

I have created a completely new control code in RR for Vista Audio control
not just the Master Volume, but control for any other PLAYBACK connection to the "speakers"

I have written a quick program, to evaluate you're vista audio system

one thing of note, vista audio is NOTHING like XP audio, its much better
its great that MS finnally dumped the old audio system.

every vista audio system can be unique, especailly with fully taskable connectors!

try this program out, and lets see some results
tell me what is your audio system...

Realtek HD Audio (ALC882)

[Speakers]    - Volume:18 - Mute:False

Line 1 - [Front Green In]  	-> Mute=False | Volume=0

I have also did some documentation, on how to use in RR
please read the text file, and any questions to it I can try to answer
I think I wrote it easy enough to understand

myself and blk02si have done Vista testing so far
also guino did a bit too
some xp tests where also done (to make sure i didnt break anything)

i use RR with vista for a while, never had any problems at all with audio in RR and tested it with multiple systems with all the flavors of vista.

Maybe cause I RTFM? When I get a chance I will try ur prog out.

john, prior to last release there is NO way audio worked in RR for vista
even if u did the hack of setting mastervolumemap=-1 (which isnt good anyway)
i dont think if you ran RR in XP compatible mode it would work right

Actually mitch, in many machines all you had to do was set XP compatibility mode -- It didn't allow to control the actual MASTER volume, but it would control the application volume (which was basically the same if you left the master volume all the way up). Anything else was incredibly dependent on your audio drivers though. This is definitely a big step up.. specially considering that newer windows versions such as Windows 7 will also use the same improved audio API.

This is all I have on my machine (stupid HP machine):

Good job Mitch its about time we start getting some Vista surport. Now I can reinstall vista and dump this XP crap.. Anyway when I had Vista installed I could not get the WiFi part to work in DFX4. have you been able to get it to work..

I was talking at lunch about my current install and my coworkers were telling me I should use Win7 in my car. Might move to Vista soon, though.

a lot of us can't run vista as it requires so much horse power. Win 7 demands about the same system requirement? I can run xp with my current system.

Windows 7 boots up 20% faster, and is much more optimized. It also takes all the crap out of Vista and makes them free addons.

Fair warning though Windows 7 is NOT public yet. If you have it, you are a beta tester or pirated it. If you pirated it, then that is illegal and any discussion of it will result in a ban on this forum. If you are a beta tester and install it in your car as well, you're breaking your beta agreement which is illegal as well.

The WiFi control in Vista/Win7 is quite different from XP.. I'm pretty sure that feature/plugin it'll have to be redone.. but I'm pretty sure it can be done too.
