    No touchscreen - suitable skin?

    Hi all,

I am working on integrating a CarPC with my OEM nav system so I don't have a touchscreen. Is there possibly a RR skin that is can be controlled only by buttons?

    Thanks,

    /Erik

You can achieve this through keytbl.ini. You have to make sure that the keys of the oem nav system represent keyboard keys (for example: wire the keys to the serial port of your carpc and use assign keys to them with Girder). You can then assign actions for every button in the keytbl.ini.

As konrad said, any skin can be used without a touchscreen. There's a "generic" solution in which RR can be fully controlled using up/down/left/right/enter (5 buttons) and you can also assign keys to specific functions in two ways: globally -- same function in all screens, or per screen -- the same key having different functions on each screen. A remote control with girder generally is a good option to make this work too.

I think there are a few people who use iDrive without using a touchscreen, using a wheel type thing that simulate the pressing of arrow keys.

Yes, there's the Space Navigator as an alternative to a touchscreen. There's even a skin built specifically for it.

Thanks for all the replies. It is actually a BMW nav system that I am using. I already found the iDrive skin which looks business and iBusRR which might provide the glue to the car.

    Looks promising...
