I'm rehijacking this thread back to original topic. :)
So I'm sort of seeing this issue. I reinstalled RideRunner (5/1/2009) from scratch and I'm using DFX 4.0.
I don't get the disclaimer screen on start-up, but sometimes, I can see the screen faintly behind the DFX 4.0 skin. Operation of RR works fine during this, all except when I play video, that disclaimer screen is now the front screen and I can hear the video playing behind it. If I touch the screen repeatedly I can get the video to appear in the foreground for about 4-5 seconds, then the disclaimer screen goes back to the front. No matter what I do I can't get disclaimer screen to "close".
My date/time is always current and I don't have that GPS option checked. From what I'm understanding, if I get the screen, it should be before RR starts, yet it looks like its sitting under RR while operating. Again it's weird that this only sometimes happens too.
Also I tried hibernating once to try it out, and like the person before me earlier in this thread, I also resume back into that disclaimer screen and I can't do anything to bypass it to get back into RR.
I could attach the debug log, but the problem is intermittent and even when the screen does appear, its behind the RR main program (almost like a background image, but I can see my background image along with it) and I can operate all of RR just fine except video.
I've also started getting the reminder screen just a few days ago. This is seriously annoying to the point that I'm thinking of hacking a batch file that always resets the date to some preset past date at bootup. It sucks though to not be able to present todays date any more in RR, but the reminder delay is simply unacceptable.
I've customized Windows XP with the EWF filter, purchased XP Lite to trim it down, optimized boot times and disabled all unnecessary services, basically made everything 'perfect' and ready to go from an SSD. No changes made to the C: drive during use are ever written to the SSD.
And then this annoying reminder comes around and wastes all my effort. What use was all the effort put into boot time optimization? I would even be prepared to pay for your software (without any hardware) just to get rid of the reminder, given a reasonable price.
Really guino, there should be a way to permanently acknowledge that "Yes I know that the software is free". I know you're releasing newer versions, but basically I don't want any other version than the one I run on my car PC using my own custom skin. It's got everything I want and everything works exactly the way it should.
sounds like u have a 3month old version, 6/1 would start the nag
update to new version, and you got another 3 months...
thats the way its going to be, because some dealers are selling this sw with thier hardware without permission, so this makes the end user aware of that... 3 months later they get the nag... i dont know if its a perfect solution to that, but its part of the argeement you make to use the free sw...
and the new nag, is much nicer, its a overylay now, and it does NOT prevent u from using rr, it simply shows and goes away
heh, i ran across this page because my version just started doing it. i set my date back a month to fix it. but i figured it had something to do with June 1st... thought i had a newer version than 3-months old but i'll give upgrading a shot too
I'm happy that YOU adressed this, because I also thought about this. No hate please ;). But I guess this won't work for me because I'm running a HORM system. (Does it check system time or bios time ? Or isn't the time saved in the horm file ?)Quote:

i dont think RR will be sold as sw alone, i think the intentions are to keep it free
it still easy to update every 3 months, u do put new music on your car pcs dont you?
just update to 6/1/2009 version, and then u can never update again, u will see a nag, when u start... but its not so bad now... if u can live with that, u dont have to update anymore, if you cant, well update... thats the argreement you make when you use this FREE software
I love hearing this argument over and over... "don't complain because it's free"...
If McDonald's was giving out free burgers that, every few bites, tasted like hairspray, would you not be allowed to complain? How would you feel if when you did complain and asked if there's a paid version that's better, they say "Yes, we sell better burgers without the hairspray taste, but not to you. Eat the free one and be happy that we're providing this product to you for free." But it still tastes like hairspray every 4 or 5 bites. Other than that it tastes ok. Is that an ok analogy?
Has anybody ever bothered to read the riderunner EULA at the nisu site??
If you did you'd find that nowhere do they mention hardware, only software.
It also states that the 2 are the same and it needs an activation key which once registered will unlock RR Pro (obviously Pro features are useless without the pro devices to run them with) so the way they've worded it reads that there will be a Pro sw available.
It also states that accessing or attempting to access said Pro features without a licence is naughty.
WHY would they say that? When the pro features apparently only come with the pro version of the sw.
