What's the name of that other front-end that is a clone or RoadRunner? We could play with that if push becomes a shove!

Hey Treetop the clone is Enicar, it's written in C++

It works great but it has about the same support as the 12/07 RR version.

Sorry about the mediacar comment, i thought RR was a continuation of mediacar, but i was thinking about the wrong project.

RR is the best front end out there no doubt, the 3/09 version has everything any carPC user could ever need and does it with style. I would pay for this product if a time bomb free version was available.

Thing is, I do somewhat agree with some of the things blk02si said.

I am not happy that an open source project has gone closed, and that we have these time bombed versions.

And if anyone says "it's free, shut up" I will give them a smack, yes it's free, but some of us have paid with our time and effort in developing for it.

And without being able to test on the new versions it may mean our work may not be usable with them, especially when the way plugins are handled may be changed.

Thats because no one ever set or started a standard for plugins which should have been done x'times back. It would have angered some, but would have benefited just about all of us instead of trying to develop a standard now with so many plugins all over the place. Change is hard, and I'm sometimes not for it....ie things that took place when mitch started putting in a lot more time into RR's dev, but now I look at it differently. The things that he does, at first seem to be a bad choice, but now I'm more seasoned to them an have come to like most of them, and if i don't I give my feedback as a seasoned user or what other users might think/ask of it and he/we go from there. Guino had also said that for anyone interested in the source to talk to him and he'd go from there. I don't know what crenditials he's going by before going the route of releasing another copy of the sources but thats something for you/him to discuss.

One last thing, there is one really good thing about having that "time bomb" is that when an issue is found and fixed, we don't have to worry about someone posting months latter that they still have this issue and ask whether its been fixed or not....

K, back to topic...whatever it is.

Enforcer, when I say it's free, I mean it's free for any person to download and use. I appriciate everything you and everyone else has done to expand RR's capabilities.

Hey Blue, give Enforcer and me some credit here. Although there were no mandates set, we tried. As a matter of fact we've been trying for over three years now, but nobody listened till the plugins broke each other! And even then , the fix was more of a work around than standardization.

gizmoQ, there were some CORE issues why plugins broke each other
    (no longer a issue)
there still isnt enough standardization, mostly due to the legacy VB6 language that cant enforce any... but things are way better then a year ago
specially if u use xm/sr/hd radio (which is why i got involved)
everything devlopes along, i have only a mental list, of things i want to clean up
i spent 12+hours working with SAL R on TRUE HORM support
and nothing is perfect here, we trying our best to work on this stuff
specially when we all have day jobs... its a labor of love (i guess)
    or some crazy brain imbalance...
    -Thanks

Yes Gizmo I know, been few discussions bout it, but i think some of the reason Y was also b/c guino didn't want to really set any to keep all options open, but that just creates more problems then opportunities...(no offense guino)

Small example is the config...everyone wanted a newer one but were too busy talking about what lang to write it in, who to do it....then along I came and said screw all the talking, just do it. And here we are all using it( for ones that do) and are happy with it for the most part.

I have this problem, too. I did a clean install and used most of the default settings in the config (aside from telling RR where winamp and the audio files were).

When I cold boot the computer or come back from standby, it starts playing songs from the first playlist I used with this RR install and not what is on the current playlist. It shows the current playlist on the screen and that it's playing a song from the current playlist, but it's playing a song from the original playlist. It seems to restore and display the original playlist if I skip a few songs.
