Well there's nothing new in the latest releases that really blows me away, such that I think I need to have it.

Also there seems to many issues when new updates come out, granted most of the revolve around the splash screen and the date, but I don't want to keep installing a new version every month in the car and then find I have to roll back because of some issue.

When I see a version that has something new that I like I might upgrade.

I put a fair amount of work editing this skin to my liking, do I have to abandon it?
The name change was just that, and things have been put in place to keep any old RoadRunner used items usable. I'm not sure how you upgraded, usually best to use the installer, it won't overwrite any setting files.

I update using the download from Nisu. I clicked the icon that was downloaded and that's what I got. I don't know of any other way to update. So I was going to work backwards using the older versions in your sig, Blue. But I have no idea how to use those type of files.

They are just renamed zip files, right click save as and just change the ext to .zip.

Yes it is that hard. Just because you don't have that problem doesn't mean that others don't have them.

My computer already has all its USB ports used and I even added a powered USB hub. Using a hub in place of existing USB busses has its own problems. First of all, sometimes devices aren't properly resumed/detected from hibernation. Second, it takes forever to re-detect every device on the USB busses (the touchscreen takes about 1 minute from car start to begin recognizing touches). Third, I have no USB ports left. Lastly, having to update things is a pain in the butt.

When you run the carputer, you just expect it to work, not to have a perpetual science project that may not work as advertised the next time you use the car.

I'm very much against these kinds of time bombs. I think this fact should be clearly advertised, particularly since RR became so popular being free and without starting as being nag-ware. I hate to see that RR has gone done this erroneous road because I love the software. I spent weeks making my own custom skin and invested alot in specific hardware that works with it. Now I have a carputer that is at the mercy of the RR developers. What if they change something in the code and my stuff breaks? Then I have a paperweight.

Advance the computer's clock to a couple of years from now. I didn't explore what date change triggers it, but it's certainly there. As of matter of fact, both my cars are now doing this with Road Runner (pre Ride Runner). I just tested Ride Runner and it has the same time bomb.

Blue, this is exactly my point... as much as you can say it's easy, people are having problems with this. We need version controlled software that is stable without time bombs or anything like it.

Its not up to me, its not my software, but I do contribute to the current releases, Guino would be just about the only person that could possibly change that. I would also believe that its not only his decision but part of the whole company's decision to have something in the SW. Considering all the time & effort that has been put into this project to make sure someone who thinks they are smart and gonna sell it as their own work to some smuck that wouldn't know any better. Its not fair to either them or us contributors.

I'd be willing to bet that $100 and your XP Registration # off your System Properties screen could get you a "one off" RR install that only works on that computer and never again see another update reminder.

Sorry for those who just drop-in every now and then when they have a problem and then dissapear again, never contributing anything. Now They have to show-up at least every 4 months and maybe, they'll stay long enough to help somebody else.

Many are under the impression RR is free, it isn't, it will cost you time and effort. Quit complaining before the man get tired of it!
