I wish the developers would put themselves in my shoes...if you can't justify this behavior as something you would do with your own personal info, how do you justify asking it of your "customers"?

If you're going to charge for it, just charge for it. I'll be happy to pay a reasonable price for it. At least then, I'd have my credit card company to afford me some level of protection.
You people need to quit complaining about this...its FREE.....I'd be MORE concerned if i was paying money to a company i never heard of...

Fact of the matter is, we DO know the company, because Guino is a part of it. We trust Guino, right? I know I do...he's created a kickass frontend (with help from several others) and has made it available to us at NO COST, and has promised that it will STAY free! So please, either use something else or QUIT COMPLAINING!

It's bad when people ***** about getting something for free anymore......

I just downloaded the new RideRunner. I used the installer and just let it run. I am using DFX4.0. It appears as if I'm having an issue with IGNative. I modified IGPause and IGResume in exectbl.ini to mute winamp when a voice command is given. After updating to RideRunner I'm getting some screwy issue. The muting/unmuting of winamp isn't working correctly and now riderunner won't let me leave the GPS window. When I try to go to a different window it comes right back to the GPS skin. This is only an issue when Iguidance is not muted and trying to give voice commands. If I mute IGuidance everything works fine. I've been trying to fix this for a couple of days now but don't see anyone else here having an issue. Can someone point me in the right direction? Maybe a skin command changed that I can't find.

Sorry for the winded post. Trying to give as much info as possible.

well catching up on some threads I'm seeing that
    1) I missed an update. I went right from the november one to this last one. it looks like there was an update in the middle there. could this be the problem?
    2) not updated to flash 10 yet. don't think this should be the problem but I'm not sure.

if anyone thinks these could be the problem let me know. open to any suggestions.

also, running on windows XP. forgot to mention my OS.

Yes...read the sticky on the Flash 10, you will want to update, as the newer RR builds are built using the 10 ver.

Probably wont "fix" the issue your having exactly, but is an update that you should do, v10 is faster, better on perfomance.

I love the product, and I'm grateful for all the effort that went into it, and grateful for the fact that it's free. Guino has always been more than helpful, and could indeed be considered instrumental to some degree to the popularity of the CarPC hobby in general. I also like Mitch's stuff, and have paid for a bit of it (Sirius usb adapter and USB optical switch, Mitch was very helpful in setup of the latter).

But the question is simple: Why do either of these entities, or the company they work for, need my name, phone number, and address?

Up until now, I've made it a practice to not give out such info unless I am involved in a transaction that necessitates it. It doesn't matter how "nice" I think that someone I've never met might be, or what they've offered in the past. The fact that it would even occur to a producer of open source software to ask for my phone number is just weird, and I can think of no good reason to do it.

So, what I'm looking for is enlightenment. Why does this company want my address and phone number, and why does no one else feel weirded out by the request? Why, when this product otherwise smacks of a certain degree of professionalism, would they want to do something so unprofessional?
I have too much time and too little aggravation in my life, so I built a carPC. ;)

There's nothing "unprofessional" about it.. as an example, go to Amazon.com, add a product to the cart and start the checkout process... they're going to ask you the same information as any other shopping cart site will ask the clients when filling out an order on an online shop. The software is a product on the site, because it's free and it's just a download, any information you provide will work, but if you choose to fill out the correct information in your shopping account then you won't have to worry about doing that in the future in case (IF) you were to actually buy something on the website, that is all, nobody is going to sell your information or send you any mail unless you were to sign up for it.

    alrighty, back to topic.

I've been working on this ignative thing for a couple of hours now. This is what I've got. I've got special "code" in my exectbl.ini (which is in the digitalfx skin folder. this has always been this way). This is my code:

    "IGPAUSE","LOWERVOLAD"
    "IGRESUME","NORMALVOLAD"

    "LOWERVOLAD","!PRESET;IG3;WINAMP||SETVOL;WINAM P;0"
    "NORMALVOLAD","PRESET;IG3;WINAMP"

I've had this since I can remember. when I commented all of these lines out IGPause and IGResume work perfectly normal in that they pause and unpause winamp. This doesn't work for sirius radio though so I'd rather have winamp mute. after a whole bunch of screwing around I think I've determined that it has to do with presets. But I can't figure out for the life of me how the hell presets work.

long story long, I've got my thing working by using this code in exectbl.ini
    "LOWERVOLAD","SETVOL;WINAMP;0"
    "NORMALVOLAD","SETVOL;WINAMP;255"

This is fine and dandy but something is definitely acting screwy here so I thought I should bring it up. the exact symptoms are hard to describe. basically I will start my music, then enter a destination. at this point I've got winamp and the windows mixer open so I can see everything. when the Iguidance command starts I see winamp mute (or more specifically the volume gets set to zero per LOWERVOLAD). then when the voice command stops the equalizer changes to something strange. I then hit menu to back out of the GPS skin and it goes right back to the GPS skin and changes the equalizer again. this is an endless loop and I have to terminate the process.

I've really sorry for the very long post but this seems to be a pretty interesting issue so maybe everyone will enjoy reading it. at least it's on topic!

Thanks for the straight answer, and I'll take it at face value because of your rep here. And tbh, I've never had to give out such details for freeware apps, at least not any I use (winamp, media player classic/home cinema, etc.). I've never had to add a freeware app to a shopping cart, so, dunno if the comparison holds.
