Hither, you could realistically make an argument that the download procedure for free software is a little convoluted. I don't have a problem with the information gathering that happened, I think the checkout process has way too many steps, but that's a different issue. I have seen other software out there that makes you go through a similar basic process. Sometimes it's just part of life for something free.

agreed, bemenaker. In other news, and back onto topic, is there any Riderunner related issue that would cause Winamp to attempt to load, but crash immediately? I know there was some issue with the path being corrupted, but my winamp install is actually loading, then crashing, since I did the update to the newest RideRunner build.

I've yet to do a re-install of Winamp, and it is crashing upon playback outside of RideRunner, so that might fix it...
I have too much time and too little aggravation in my life, so I built a carPC. ;)

Typically when winamp is crashing during load or after loaded it's a plugin issue.... I suggest disabling/removing the plugins you have in winamp and trying it out again.. then adding one by one (the ones you use) to see which would be causing the problem..

i have two requests i'd like to make for the next RR release...

    1. please... PLEASE add back a RADIORESET command. I, like chuck, am having random radio com failures at restart/ resume. One simple command to terminate the COM port then reconnect it seems alot easier than having to reboot the PC

    2. Can we add a custom source ID thats user-definable. it could be done with a command.. something like NEWSOURCEID;<new source>. Doing this would allow things like internet radio from messing with the audio playlist. Instead of programatically saving the audio playlist then restoring it then next time AUDIO is run, a custom source would allow a user to go from AUDIO and internet radio seemlessly.

    sonicx,
#1 its there... but... one thing of note "RADIORESET" only works if "radio on", and thats a loose term that has nothing to do with the radio actually being on
isnt gonna be that simple... are u using HDRADIO?
cause HDRADIO if rr is hibernate aware, closes the comport at hibernation, and at resumes opens it... no comport is left hanging
if RR is hibernate aware. you might just have a simple hardware issue

#2 i dont understand the request
    -Thanks

if RR is hibernate aware. you might just have a simple hardware issue
i'd say 80% of the time my radio resumes when rr resumes at hibernation. The other 20% of the time rr resumes but my directed unit will not connect. Most of the time it requires me to exit rr, remove power from the HD radio, then restart it and RR. On some occasions i have to power down the HDRadio and completely reboot the computer. RR doesnt always close the port at hibernation. i know this because if i resume then run your HDPCR app the port cannot be found. I've tried this on 3 seperate xp installations and it happens on each randomly. It would seem rather than troubleshooting with people that have this issue independently a command which manually closes and reopens the port would be easier.

#2 i dont understand the request
has to do with the user variable ACTIVESOURCEID. Each source in RR currently has its own ID number

    Code:
    "ACTIVESOURCEID" - returns 1 = HD Radio, 2 = Radio, 3 = XM Radio, 4 = Sirius Radio, 5 = Audio(mp3), 6 = Video, 7 = DVD, 8 = TV
what i'm asking is to add a 9 option which could be named "Custom". This option would allow external "media" plugins to communicate to RR when they should be and shouldnt be active. For instance.. my rrshoutcast plugin has a tuning command which saves the active winamp playlist, then loads the shoutcast internet radio stream. But say a user is done listening to internet radio and wants to listen to their previously saved audio playlist. Running the "AUDIO" command will simply keep internet radio playing on audio_player.skin. If the "AUDIO" command is aware that ACTIVESOURCEID = 9 it would know to reload the saved audio playlist and resume playback.

This should be somewhat simple to implement. There would be one new command.

    "NEWSOURCE;<source name>"

    The command would:
    1. Save the current audio playlist, position in playlist, and track position (latter stuff could be written to resume.ini)
    2. Set the ACTIVESOURCEID to 9
    3. Set the ACTIVESOURCE label to <source name>

After that it should be just a matter of making the audio command aware of ACTIVESOURCEID.

If ACTIVESOURCEID = 9 then 'exiting custom, reload saved playlist.

If anyone can explain this better than i by all means chime in

activesource is one way.. it reports, code does not react off it
to do what u want might be possbile, but not simple
the core problem is AUDIO, how mp3 is treated
rr IS based on SKINS, not SOURCES

if you want to work on this, we can do it privately, and i can try to do it

as for your issue, if the comport is hung higer up in the OS, nothing will help
look at debug.txt at hibernation, if u see
HD---> HDRadioPowerOff: frmCOM.oHD.Close (DTR Drop, HD Powered off...)
the comport is closed as far as my module is concerned
so please dont put any blame on RR
again we can work on ur issue in private or another thread
since nothing here is mentioned about your hardware, ie USB-> RS232 dongle
providing a command to close and open the port, isnt simple, hd radio is a process
and your issue may be isolated.. .since i have sold toooons of cables
and ur the 1st to mention 20% fail on resume
    -Thanks

I'm already doing something like this using RRCode.

I havent implemented a restore playlist but I know its doable given my use of CD/Restore playlists via CFX-Tools batch files. I have implemented album art for U-tube and albumartclick recorder scripts that use byvar and my own variable akin to audiosourceid.

Here is some of my exectbl.ini code:
